I assume you're either in the U.S. or England. You'll note that the majority of people in either place are white which is why he is depicted that way. If you go to Africa, particularly churches in Ethiopia, you'll find that he's often depicted as a being black or at the very least much darker skinned than you'll find here in the U.S. I would think, though I'm not positive, that the same would be true in Asian countries (as in he would have more Asian features). It's just the way humans are, we're more likely to depict someone in our own image if we have no reason not to.

This is because an inferiority complex. If Jesus was a dark skinned man then the so called father of Jesus would then have dark skin. Most white people would never worship a black God. Hence we have a white Jesus. So long as he is white the darker races would always be enslaved to the idea of God being white. This is confusing. This why God would never have a son. By the way I am not a racists nor do I believe in a superior race. We are all equal save the good and bad deeds we aquire in life.

Jews did not have dark skin, however their skin is more tan than a white guy.
It turns out the the painters of Jesus were Roman and they painted him with Roman features.
They shouldn't be more tan than the Iraqi's. That is where Abraham came from initially.

The same reason that when they show crime statistics, they merge Mexican, Spanish, and others into the "white" column, thus making the white population appear closer to others in crime.

Same reason they came up with "virgin birth" for him 100 years after he died, same reason they came up with "immaculate conception" for his mother 700 years after he died, same reason they made up miracles, his resurrection, other people seeing him after he died...
The truth that this was a good guy who just wanted to teach peace wasn't good enough for his followers after he was dead. They had to make him "divine," and had to make him "marketable." To get the Romans, Franks, Angles, Saxons, Germans, etc. to accept him, they showed him as "white." Like we always say: men create their gods in their own image :)
