I've had my piercing for at least a year, and it's still not fully healed, if I leave it out for too long, I have to use a little force to get the bar back in. Recently I got it snagged on the seatbelt and was wondering if that could lead to infection (it started to bleed.)

It's a barbell through the cartilege, and no it's not being stretched.

Well, it could be due to the fact that its close to your hair, so all the oils in your hair enter that hole, and also the fact that you mentioned you take it out for a while, that doesn't help AT ALL, mine wasn't healing well after a while, so what i decided to do was to clean it with beta-dine and then dry it out with a q-tip in alcohol, so if you wanna try that it can help, good luck!!!

Um... don't take it out. Chances are the barbell you have in is externally threaded, yes? If so, it'll tear up the inside of the hole.

A snag won't cause an infection anymore than a papercut will, but if you have an open wound *what? you don't think a piercing is literally an open wound with jewelry in it when it's in the healing stages? it is* and bacteria finds it's way into it, then you could have a problem. Just keep it clean, it should be fine.

A piercing in the cartilage *ear or nose, it's essentially the same stuff* will usually take, I dunno, 6months to 1 year and 6months to heal, factor in the healing time you've lost in removing the jewelry and you're piercing really shouldn't be healed yet. My conch *the 'inside' part of the ear* took something close to two years before it had gone back to being the right thickness and didn't hurt, and I wasn't fiddling with it the way I think you are. That's one piercing *all beit through really thick cartilage, but still* that took 2years when left alone. You have two piercings trying to heal at the same time and you're taking the jewelry out.

Cartilage heals slowly, and like any other wound, if you mess with it it'll slow down the process. Don't touch it unless you're cleaning it. Don't take the jewelry out, ever. If you have a reason to be removing it periodically, figure out some better jewelry options until it's healed *a ring in each hole works for most people, assuming you have the mainstream industrial and not the one that goes through your conch or anything funky, just the vanilla version* which could be another year. Taking stuff out really does mess up the healing process. If you have to use force to get it back in, you're doing even more damage.

If you can't keep jewelry in it all the time, at least while it's healing, do your body a favor and just take it out and let it heal over. Your immune system will thank you.

I have one and it took about 6 months to heal. From time to time I'll snag it and it will be sore for about a week, but I have no problems with infections or anything like that. If you take it out it will close. If you have to take your bar out use small earrings to keep the holes open so you don't have to re pierce it. I lost my bar once and i put regular earrings in and i had no problems when i put my bar back on.

Hope this helps....Good Luck

Did you stretch it to be larger or just pierce for the size? If you did the latter it takes a while as you put a large hole in your body. The fact that is has been a year...I would just take it out and work up to the size you want and let that one heal. Keep it covered and clean until it closes up.
