I'm tired of us always being late! Me? I try to be as punctual as possible, but my parents always ruin it. Whenever we have a party, my parents aren't dressed when the guests come. I love them, but they can be really late, which embarrasses me (and I'm SURE it embarrasses them, as well). Any advice on what I should do now? My friend and her family are coming over to celebrat X-Mas, but my parents and brother aren't ready yet! And here's the BIG problem: our guests are usually on time! They are polite, and I don't want them to think we're not if my parents aren't ready by then. Please help!

You are part of a family that is relaxed about punctuality. When you leave home and have your own life, you can be as punctual as you like. Until then, you are not responsible for your family's lateness. They are the way they are and I'm sure their friends accept them this way. All you have to be responsible for is yourself.

You sound pretty mature so if you are ready just go and let the people in and socalize with them and keep them company and its not in your place to tell anyone why everyone else is not there unless you are asked.People will see you are the responsible one in your house. So go be the first one to welcome your guests into your home and don't worry about your other family members they will be there soon

My parents are the same!

You just have to take over the organizational part of beverything from now on!

They are not going to change. Be in charge of the preparations from now on. That way you will avoid any disappointments or embarassment!

Worked for me!

well tell your guest that yall were out shopping for the best gift to give your grandma. this will let them know you care about your family first and they will not notice that your family is not ready. and if that doesnt work offer them a drink or cookies that will buy you some time.

I iron all my clothes the day before and then hang them on a hanger for easy access. Why not next time do that for them.

You can't change that, it's a characteristic burned into their brain. It's very rude, but not something that you can change.
