Yes you can, use about 60 "beats" of the wooden (or other) spoon instead of 1 minute on the electric mixer.

Be sure everything is smooth before you put it in the pan.

Most of the time you can get away with doing it by hand if you are patient and mix it long enought until smooth, but it just depends on what you are making. For instance, cheesecake would not work mixed by hand because it would be impossible to get it smooth. Cake batters on the other hand usually do fine without a mixer. Good luck.

yes you can but it will take a lot longer. it also depends on what you are making if your whipping egg whites try and use a copper bowl and chill it beofre you start so that it will actually whip into peaks. otherwise just make sure you have a place to set it down and change hands when one gets tired

Of course you can! Its how they did it in the old days when there were no mixers. Beat the heck out of it...use a whisk to get the aeration and you will be fine!

Not if you have to whip it into a mousse-type consistancy. If you are just making a sauce or batter you can do it by hand.

If it's a thin batter, you can always use a wisk. Most things can be done by hand, it just takes more elbow grease.
