Linguistically speaking, a "neutral" accent is the English spoken in the mid-western United States, specifically in Iowa. Believe it or not, this includes our English-speaking cousins from the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Most of us have some kind of accent. The English spoken in New Jersey and New York City, has a great deal of history. Just be proud of your heritage.
