Track work/ speed work. I taking it that you already run and want to go faster. Yes? Go down to your local school and do 1/4 mile repeats. Start with doing them in 90seconds about 4 of them.then next week try 85 seconds and so on. Once do it for a while 1/2 mile repeats. Oh ya do at least a mile warm up before, a mile or two cool down after.

speedwork is how you get faster.
Go to your track warm up, stretch very well and run one lap (400 meters) as fast as you can. Then once a week in addition to running relatively long distance do a speed work out. Which should be done like so.. take that 400 meter time and add 20 seconds to it and run 4 of them at that time with a lap jog in between then every other week add 2 more. Then you can also do 200 meter sprints which you should do by running a 200 meter as fast as you can then add 10 seconds to that time and do 4 of those every week will adding another 2 every other week or so if you dont want to do the 400's.

Make a routine. Run several times a week for a certain amount of time each practice. Stretch before and after running, and eat healthy meals, but don't run right after eating. Sleep well. Keep up the same routine for a while and soon you'll see improvement. Good luck!

i am not sure wether u mean over short or long distances...?
for short distances - set up cones and race throgugh them. Have someone time u while doing it. Try to push yourself a little more each time because you will get tired quickly.
for long distances - pick a lenght (i.e. 1 mile, 2 miles,5 miles, ect.) and run that distances, timing yourself. for example, if you ran 2 miles in 15 minutes today, tomorow go out and try to run the 2 miles in 14 minutes 40 seconds. each day cut the time down by a few seconds and soon you'll be really fast. good luck!

to increase your top speed, lift weights with your legs, lose weight, run every morning in weekly-increasing amounts. go to a track and clock your fastest quarter mile every week.
if you mean how does it happen, the cells in your legs call for more oxygen and glucose. the mitochondria in the cells combine and break down the glucose using the oxygens chemical properties, getting to ATP, or human energy. the more oxygen and glucose, or sugar, u get to your legs, the faster the mitochondria in your muscle cells can turn out energy, and the faster your quadriceps can contract and expand to put some distance between you and the guy with a chainsaw on your tail.

there is only two ways to run faster becuase running depends on two facotrs: stride freuency and stride length. To run faster you need to imcrease on one, or both of these two factors. you endurance,m ur muscle strength also affect your performance. My coach focuses on stride freueucny at the begining of the seaon. He makes us do intervals and repeats, ithc distance runs that goes up tgo 13 miles, which increase our endurance, adn the rate in which we can stride. Toward the middle and the end of th eseason, we work on stide length to trim off that one or two seconds. We do this by doign striders..Hope this helps

Stay away from weights. Use isometrics, stretching exercises. Isometrics is taken from the techniques of how animals stretch and push next to immoveable objects, such as large trees or rock formations. To run faster, also try running in the swimming pool. This will build up your endurance and strength. When doing warmup sprints, slowly work on technique, then increase your speed after 5 sprints of 40 yards. Keep your hands and fingers extended and together and not in a fist during your stride (watch old Carl Lewis films and watch his technique. His fingers were always extended.) Also be cognizant of your arm swings. Pump them as close to your body as possible. Your legs usually run in the way your arms move. Don't tense up. Stay loose. I tried to keep my breathing techniques consistent. Don't huff and puff when you run. Take deep breaths and maintain a good pattern. It doesn't matter if you want to be a sprinter or long-distance runner. One day alternate distances--one day sprints, next day, distances. But always do pool work, and stretch and do isometrics before hitting the track.

practice everyday. if you have a coach listen to them and do exactly everything they want you to do. even if you think it is a waste of time. it will pay off in the end.
also you got to believe in yourself, never give up until you pass through the finish line. that little millisecond can make the difference. you have to fight with yourself the whole race and give it all you got.
eat pasta before a race. its supposed to be got for you.
