No offense to Goths, but I know that many Christians think of them automatically as "Bad". I am a Christian, but I shop in the supposed "Goth" store, Hot Topic, and I find that friends and family give me incredulous looks when I bring up going into the store. I understand that some "Goths" are involved in the occult and such, but I also understand that not all are, and just because you dress in black doesn't mean you worship Satan. What is your opinion on the matter?

I don't necessarily mean that Hot Topic is a "goth" store, only that people (At least the people around me), seem to consider it to be one.

Dear isayssoccer-
No it's not wrong. My daughter used to shop there exclusively. As long as she followed our standard of modesty and did not wear anything with a logo or words that would be anti -Christian no problem. As a matter of fact they have some cute stuff too. Just stay away from the stuff that you know would be offensive to God.

I think what is more important is a person's walk with the Lord.
We are to honor Him with our thoughts, words and deeds. We are to love each other etc.. I am really glad to see my daughter mature as young lady and as a Christian. It is kind of nerve wracking being a parent and doing all one can do to "train a child up in the way they should go". Kids don't automatically become saved just by being raised in a Christian home. It is each person's individual choice to accept salvation from the Lord.

So (sorry this is getting long!), keep your eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of your faith. Don't wear inappropriate stuff. Keep it fun. Enjoy life as a woman of God. Keep reading and studying God's Word.

It is just a store for crying out loud. I am 54 years old and I buy some things there from time to time. They have chains for billfold and other biker type things. They have other items than just the typical "goth" stuff. That is one of the few stores in my town that still sell Jim Morrison and the Beatles T-Shirts.

There is nothing wrong with wearing black. I have worn mainly black for 40 years, but back in the sixties when I first started wearing black people called me Johnny Cash due to his number one hit song back then The Man In Black. I wear black jeans and black T-shirts and when I wear a regular shirt it is a black cowboy style shirt. Black leather vest and even when I wear blue jeans I have black shirts on. Then in the 1970's People called me Billy Jack due to him wearing black T- Shirts and blue jeans. I wore these things before the movie Billy Jack came out and before the Johnny Cash song, but people will always tell us what our motives are and know nothing about us or our motives.

Some of the Goth kids have rebelled to the point that a lot of adults feel anything they associate with goth is bad. It was that way with the Hippies in my day. Before that I was too young to be one but it was the beat niks.

I'm a Christian and black happens to be my favorite color. I wear it all the time. I see nothing wrong with shopping at Hot Topic or any other store that sells gothic clothes and jewelry. But,we must keep in mind that we are Christians and we need to dress accordingly, because we are under constant scrutiny by the public eye and are therefore being judged by everything we say,do or wear. Anything that may be construed as unchristianlike should be reconsidered, for we don't want to be a stumbling block to anyone.

I don't think it matters as long as you do it with the right mindset. And since when was Hot Topic a Goth store? I've never heard that but then again I don't keep up with that kind of stuff.

I don't consider Hot Topic goth. That store has become the new "trendy" thing to teenagers and they simply must have the baggy black pants and makeup that makes them look like a ghost!

I think Hot Topic is now officially an emo store. It quit being goth several years ago.

That said, I know some Christians who work at our local HT (my best friend is a manager there).

I never really got the whole concept of the goth thing, in my opinion it makes people look emo and less attractive, but I don't think it is wrong if that is the way people want to live....

I don't think it's a big deal ... people who focus so much on that are ignoring the main deal. Unless you're wearing clothes that directly say, "I hate ___" or something, you should rather focus on the actual points of your religion, and I think the main idea of shopping in Hot Topic is no problem.

Go ahead... It's just a store... Wearing clothes from Hot Topic doesn't automatically put you into a certain social group.

Haha, ok I am a Christian and i love Hot Topic. It is so funny though when I go shopping with my mother she always gets kind of tense when I drag her in there.

I also like tattoos and piercings and I smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol.

I think Birth Control is a great things and I know its not my place to tell anyone they are going to hell.
