Yes, it's selfish. If you are with someone you don't care about you are doing it strictly for yourself. You may think you are doing it for them to protect them from getting hurt or something, but you're not. Perhaps you are doing it to protect yourself from feeling like a jerk when you break up with them. Or maybe they do something for you - good sex, buy you things. . . regardless of why you are staying with them it isn't right.

If you don't care about someone, and you know you won't you have to give them some dignity and break up with them. Maybe you're waiting for them to break up with you, but sometimes people will hang on. Hoping you'll see how good the relationship is, how good they are to you, hoping if they do enough, if they try hard enough, you'll suddenly wake up one day and realize that you feel the same way. If you know you don't care about them, and you aren't going to you have to end it, so they can move on.

It's not easy, but you can't expect to go through life without hurting people. Sometimes you'll be the dumpee, sometimes you'll be the dumper. That's life. You can't stay with someone if it isn't right.

However, after reading above, I do want to add if you're in an extremely serious relationship, such as you are married or have kids together it is more important to try and work through the relationship. If this is the case I think you probably did really care about the person at some point and it would be good to seek counselling to see if you could resurrect those feelings.

My answer is "yes". I do think it is wrong but men do it all the time. Besides, who is the Einstien when it comes to the definition of love. I'm sure he knows that you don't care about him. Who knows, he may not even care about you. The two of you should just enjoy the ride.

I think that they're you're playing with his heart, and that is not right at all. Sooner or later you'll leave someone that you don't love. Why not sooner instead of later ? You're leading that man on, and that's not right at all. Think how you'd feel if someone whispered sweet nothings in your ears for years, you gave them your all...boom the bomb hits! and all of a sudden said they didn't love you...I think your heart would be crushed, broken, and pulvarized into twenty million pieces.
