So long as you are rinsing with pure water (not sugar flavor water, etc) rinsing will not effect the effectiveness of Listerine. However, why are you using Listerine? Bad breath? Why I ask is this - whenever I have used Listerine it caused me more problems than it solved. Listerine kills the good germs and the bad germs. Germs (i.e. bacteria) is necessary in the mouth to keep a healthy balance. If I use Listerine, within a week or so I will develop a yeast infection because the good bacteria is not there to keep the balance. If you are using it just to give yourself a nice clean smell for your partner, I would recommend something that does not kill all the bacteria in your mouth.

Yes you can rinse. The main point of Listerine is to kill germs and once they're dead rinsing won't bring them back.

Listerine is not a fluoride rinse, so yes, you can rinse after using it.
