i got a toshiba hd dvd player and two movies fearless and accepted (in hd dvd format) . when i play it i get a black patch on top and bottom of my 16:9 widesceen tv. (lg hdtv)

i expected the movie to play in full screen. does any one know why and how i can pan and scan to fill the screen.

I also tried to use anamorphic wide screen dvd's but still i get that black strip on the top and bottom of the tv :-(

what aspect ratio dvd's will be viewable in complete screen ?

It is a very common misconception that if you buy an HD TV then movies will play in full screen. Unfortunately, movies are made in many different aspect modes that don't always match the 16:9 aspect of an HDTV. You can use the "aspect" button on your TV's remote to change the picture aspect, but if you fill the screen you may lose some side picture information.

Movies don't all have the same aspect ratio.
