I was going to answer your question with respect to bean sprouts, but one of your other respondents mentioned Brussel Sprouts, and then I wondered which you were referring to. Brussel Sprouts - No Way. Bean Sprouts - Yes. God Bless you.

The key to flatulent-free sprouts

The secret lies in not cooking them for too long
A farmer is hoping to spread festive cheer around the dinner table - by revealing the secret of producing flatulent-free sprouts.
Freda Neale, who grows five tonnes of the vegetables each year at her farm in Burscough, near Ormskirk, Lancs, claims the secret lies in the cooking.

She says sprouts should only be cooked for six to eight minutes.

"Overcooking causes chemicals in the sprouts to react and emit sulphur," said the sprout expert.

"This also gives them their bitter taste and makes them - and those who eat them - smell."

Mrs Neale claims the best way to ensure tasty and 'fragrance-free' sprouts is buy fresh, young, bright green sprouts, preferably with the stalks still attached.

She also advises chewing each mouthful at least 10 times to ensure it is quickly broken down by the time it reaches the gut.

I love Brussel sprouts.
To cook really great sprouts.. peel back the outer leaves, cut the stalk and slice each one in half.
Steam for about 6 minutes until they become a brilliant green color.
Melt butter on top, add salt and pepper and enjoy.
The key is to slice them in half. That way they don't over cook.
I also pan fry them or over roast.

Brussel Sprouts.. yes I do.

I despised them until I was about 25... and while in the Navy met a cook (Mess Specialist) who boiled them in LEMON water !! Killed the smell, he also doused them with lemon-juice. He had a garlic mayo for dipping.

Love 'em. Am in Melbourne at present, so no sprouts this Christmas - and it's cold and rainy too!

Yup, sprouts get my vote. Specially if they're smothered in melted butter and black pepper, served with creamed potatoes, whole baby carrots, and a huge helping of leg or shoulder of lamb.
Woof woof. Hoooooowwwwwwlllllllllllllll........
