Beautiful melody
Bad song.
Lyrics:

Rock-a-bye, baby
In the treetop
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
When the bough breaks
The cradle will fall
And down will come baby
Cradle and all

Baby is drowsing
Cosy and fair
Mother sits near
In her rocking chair
Forward and back
The cradle she swings
And though baby sleeps
He hears what she sings

From the high rooftops
Down to the sea
No one's as dear
As baby to me
Wee little fingers
Eyes wide and bright
Now sound asleep
Until morning light

it is odd...think about it, poor humpty dumpty, jack & jill, three blind mice....& a few others the words/lyrics are actually cruel LOL, i mean jack broke his crown, they couldn't put humpty dumpty together again, the farmers wife cut off the tail of three blind mice...

this rhyme, plus most of the mother goose nursery rhymes, were supposedly all written in England long ago as political comment against the royalty. google it and you'll get a bunch of sites with interpretations for all. this one is supposedly either about some King who is going to be overthrown by war, or in America it was from the native indians who hung their babies cradles on tree boughs while they worked.

see it is to show that parents r in control, plus, isn't the singing soothing? The singing soothes the baby, and when the little hairs in the ers r activated and vibrated so slightly and gently, they r easier to get to sleep. That one song was also to remind young mothers to not leave kids near windows!!!

I have always changed the words to include .." Mom will catch baby cradle and all." My kids always were loving that part.

First of all, the baby falls out of a tree, not a window. And I guess the melody is soothing.

Babies do not care what the words are they just hear the sound of the soothing, comforting voice. It doesn't matter what you sing just how you sing.

Actually it's about falling out of a tree!

And by the time you get to singing the song....you're ready to jump yourself! (hehe)

IT'S JUST THE SOUND OF THE SONG FOR THE BABY. THE BABY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE WORDS MEAN.
