I had it done about 4 years ago now and it is one of the best thongs that I EVE R did! I am more than pleased with the results. I had it done right before I went to Iraq, with the logic that it might just save my life insead of having glasses get dirty or fall off during a firefight, or if I didn;t save my life and I did die then my life insurance policy would cover the cost anyway. Morbid, I know, but that was my thinking. I paid about $3400. I do know that it is cheaper in Canada if you live mear the border.

Wow - that's a pretty broad question.
As far as lasting, in general the effects are permanent, though as you age your vision will still continue to deteriorate in a 'normal' fashion.
And there are side effects - I had laser surgery done a couple of months ago, and I still have sparkles in the eye... I'm considering canceling my appointment to do my other eye - don't want to live with sparkles in both eyes the rest of my life.
As for cost, depends on the type of surgery being done (there are a lot nowadays), whether its one or both eyes, and where you live.
In some cases insurance will pay for it... and if you have no income, some county or city hospitals will perform it on an ability to pay program.

In the beginning, RK and PRK procedures were supposed to last about 10 years. With the advent of LASIK, permanent corrected vision is possible.
Of course, it all depends on you, meaning, how you heal, whether or not you regress back to your former prescription. Also, the doctor or technician may over-compensate and you would be far sighted.
From pre-op to post-op, the surgery lasts about 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. Expect the actual surgery to take about 7-10 minutes per eye.
Cost for LASIK depends on who does the surgery. You can find bargain places for $299 per eye, but you must have only the minimum correction for that. Anything above minimum correction (usually -0.75 or worse) will cost more. Most doctors will charge about $2000 per eye.

this can not be replied with out understanding the style of laser eye surgical operation. it will be refractive, for glaucoma, after cataract, corneal themes etc. area also makes a distinction. If a medically mandatory technique it really is roofed through coverage, optional isn't.

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

it should last forever. It costs around 5 Gs for a reputable Dr to do it. I would only get one eye done at a time, at least that way you have a backup if you go completely blind.

It lasts for about 10 yrs. or so and the doctor doesn't guarentee that you can go blind after 10 yrs. Talk to your eye doctor for more info. It usually costs around 5K.
