If you don't have a rice cooker, and you're paranoid about burning the rice on a stove top, here's a VERY easy alternative to steamed rice.
Of course, this is assuming that you're using regular long grain white rice.
Take some rice, and put it in a rectangular cake pan, and mix it with a little bit of salt and oil.
Pour twice as much water as you did rice in that same pan, and cover it with aluminum foil. Poke a small hole in the top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour.
Enjoy.

If your not going to use a rice cooker, then put 2 cups of water to each cup of rice into a pot with a lid, put the lid on, leave on the burner for 23 minutes. DON'T OPEN THE LID. Remove the pot and let stand for about 10 minutes and then take off the lid and fluff it up. Should turn out ok for you.

put twice as much water as rice in a pan, put a top on it and bring to low boil. Pour out any extra water when the rice is soft but firm. A little salt helps, too much hurts. Don't put any spices in until the rice is fully cooked.

Best way - use small ceramic pots (with cover). 1 part rice to 2 parts water.
Then steam the pots in a metal large pot or wok by using a prop up stand in the large pot. Add water into the large pot for the steam. This way is the real way to steam rice because the steam comes from outside the ceramic pot.

A rice steamer is best. If you don't have one put a cup of rice into a pot fill with water till it comes to the first digit on your finger above the rice. Bring to a boil, turn it down cover, keep checking till its the desired consistency.
