It will depend on the department, most departments, but not all issue guns (weapons) ammo , many but not as many provide mace and baton.
The department I worked for when I was a police officer for the first time only paid me back for the ammo I bought, but I furnished my own weapon and all other supplies, even had to pay for the uniform, they gave me my badge.
The last department supplied everything even a few hundred practice rounds each month.
But I know many departments that the officers have to supply thier own practice ammo, thier own mace and thier own batton if they want to carry them.
And even on here you hear from a few officers there still provide thier own service weapons.

Some PDs allow their officers to buy their own weapons with guidelines. A fixed reimbursement rate will then be applied to offset the cost of the weapon. A lot of officers also spend their own money to purchase a secondary weapon that can be hid on the body.

It depends on the Department. 9 times out of 10 they are issued but you need to purchase your own back up weapon.

it depends on the agency. Most issue them, some give an allowence for officers to buy the gear they want (within standards) and others (usually those really small departments) do have you buy your own gear. But the average agency, issues an officer all their gear.

Most are issued weapons that are legitimatly needed. A few take it upon themselves to arm themselves above and beyond the call of duty.l I have known several "swat" team members who feel totally justified in stealing weapons from "criminals" in order to be "prepared"

Issued so that they can be tracked and it also ensures that they meet the regulations required by the respective Police Department.

It varies from Dept to Dept. I had to buy mine 7 years ago,
now the new recruit officers are issued sidearms.
Ammo must be standardized so it is issued.

It depends on the department. I have mine issued to me. My friend went to another agency in the county and he had to purchase his firearm but was issued the rest of his duty gear.
