Run some auburn or golden brown hairdye through it and get a nice, subtle cut with layers, maybe a bob or a layered look. Don't do anything radical, unless you tell him first. A strawberry-blonde crewcut with spikes and platinum blonde streaks can be too much.

You don't have to change it, but maybe styled different. Like those loose spiral curls or something.
You did not say where he was... If he was in Iraq, be prepared that he is gonna smell a little different. It took my friend about a week to stop smelling like the middle east.
Just look the best you can and get something kinky for later on...

add highlights or the type of styles go with whats in now days and make it hot and sexy men like that at lest that s what i know.

Whatever you do, don't cut it short. Most men like long hair and they hate it when you cut it.
