If I recall correctly from Thanksgiving, Butterball recommends that if you are thawing the turkey in a container with cold water, you should change the water about every thirty minutes. I understand that the need to change the water is to keep bacteria from multiplying in the turkey. I have thawed turkeys in my washtub for years (since one year when I forgot to get the turkey until Christmas eve, and was desperate to find out how to thaw it), and never changed the water, and have never had a problem, but it is probably better to be safe than sorry. However, I think that the constant cold of the frozen-but-thawing turkey would be enough to keep any bacteria at bay until the turkey was close to thawed.

thaw the turkey in a container in a sink and keep the water running at a brisk trickle. That way the water is fresh and the moving water helps thaw the bird faster.

You should not be thawing a turkey in water. It should be thawed in the fridge for a few days. If it is still frozen from being in the fridge, you can leave it in the sink overnight to thaw completely provided you are cooking it tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

The bird should be in it's wrapping, if you are running water over it. You can change the water if it makes you feel better but there's no surface contact so it's a moot point.

If it is out of its wrapping, stop running water on it. Dry it off with paper towels and let it thaw in the fridge under a damp towel.

you have to leave the turkey under running water. The temperature of the water has to be less of 70F. Cold running water keep the turkey free of any bacteria. Never leave the bird in water container, warm and quiet water is ideal for grow bacterias.-

Skip the animal carcass meal and try a vegetarian one. No need to thaw tofy or beans!
