I Thought money was the root to all evil so like you said why does the church ask for it?. Oh I'll tell you why because religion contradicts it's self and is full of sh*t and all religions should be band.

This is not a bad question but any answer will be just another opinion...and everybody has one...so here's mine!
We have a tendency to be narrow-minded and/or impatient. We tend to see the Bible one verse at a time instead of as a collection of inter-related documents. John 3:16 is the perfect example of this. People look at it as the gold standard of how to get salvation. Since it is easy and God said it, it must be so...right? Wrong! You can't take one step of a recipe and bake a cake. You might complete one step, but something will be missing. Same with the Bible, read it all and look at it as a whole, or you will end up with nothing more than a pile of flour in a bowl. In the end, the Bible should be for our gain, but under God's terms and not ours.
God does not "require" people to pay money to the church. In the Old Testament, the Jews were required to tithe a certain portion to the synagogue. The New Testament, while providing examples and parables of giving, does not require it. But the message is clear...if you have been blessed with "earthly treasures," you should return a portion of those blessings to the church in order to support the works of the church. This money would have been (and should still be) used for caring for orphans, widows, and others in need or to provide support for full-time preachers, missionaries, or upkeep of the church.

the money is for the ministry of the word, like helping the poor, those in need, and most ministers don't have a job other than the church, weekly they travel to the hospitals and rest homes, funerals, they will need a place to live and a car to go to all these places, and then there's his family, home utilize, and food, if he doesn't work and pays his own bills, outside of the church and if the power is off and the building is foreclosed on then there wouldn't be a church, you people need to think with just a little common sense....set down and figure it up before you start thinking the church is some big money racket...it might be that way in 1% of the churches...but the rest is doing what they are suppose to be doing...serving the Lord.

I believe the Bible does not require the ordinary person to Tithe or give money to the Church. The Bible does require Tithing but that is because one of the tribes of Israel - (the Priests) did not own land and to sustain them the owners of the fields (not the slaves and ordinary workers) to give a tenth of the produce to the Priests. This was required to be taken to the place where the Priests lived - The Church (Synagogue)

The Bible is inspired by God, written by men - don't take it literally or you'll either disbelieve the whole lot or become a religious fanatic. We are supposed to use our reason, although many churches would try and make us switch it off so they can brainwash us. Religion points the way to God, but it's been constructed by man, and is therefore subject to the usual corruption that comes with opportunities for power and money. Merry Christmas.

OK, I know this isn't an answer, but why have A2Z, RB and meeee's answers been rated low? I've scanned through A2Z's answer and it looks good.
This is my answer: I used to go to youth club/church a while ago, but I lost (most of) my faith in God, because things started going wrong. I questioned my faith, wondering why he was allowing these things to happen. I also found that I eventually didn't have time to go anymore and those were the two main reasons I stopped going.
I don't know who or what created the Earth. I don't know if God exists, I don't know if someone/something similar to God exists.
I just know that He (or something) brought me the best present of my life - plus, it didn't cost anything, at least in terms of money - and that my life is the best it's been since 2 years ago.
So, I'm happy.
=)
PS thirty-two: With respect meant, surely he's read it if he thinks it's the word of Man? However I do agree with what you said.

well the church like everything else has bills and it is suppose to help people in need and that takes money! God only requires 10 percent! that is nothing since really the world and all it contains belongs to God. He said to give 10 percent and live off the other 90 percent!

Yes, It is the word of God..spoken through mans hands. If nobody gives money to the church, Who pays the light bill/heat bill/ and for the functions that provide for the community? Read the Bible before you join the rest of those who choose to put it under scrutiny without the benefit of intellectual review.

well, even though the bible was written by man, it was inspired by god and it takes god to understand it-it took god to inspire men to know what to write, and it takes god to enlighten men to understand it. and god is love, and if people are needy, and if god lives in us, then we should spontaneously give, right? And he does't make you, but it is better to give and to recieve-the pastors out there, they get paid by the donations. They live a simple life, and do god's work, but, they have to eat dont they? God doesn't REQUIRE them to give anything-its just a nice thing to do. also, a long time ago, the roman catholic church abused the tithes that the people gave, and blackmailed them "If you don't give us money, you'll go to hell, and so will your mom, and your dad, and so on and so on.". But, in some churches, the money goes to the people who work for the church-and its not much. My sister's friend is a full-timer (someone who works for the church)and she lives really simply. Not every church abuses the tithes, but some do.

You are right all the way. There were contributions to the church in the bible though. Jesus made the point about the old lady putting the one coin in the box the best contribution due to her donating the most she could due to her love for God. Contributions were originally for the upkeep on the maintenance of the church, not for the preachers to put it in their pockets and make a fortune. Jehovah's witnesses are the only religion who don't make any profit off of the contributions.

God does not require people to pay money to the church.
Why has man interpreted it so that he may benefit and gain? Greed. Avarice. His greed and avarice. And that of many in the congregation. Also, having a form of Godly devotion but proving false to its power. 2 Timothy 3:5
