I am a Christian now, but back when I was an atheist (well, I was more of an irreligious, there is a difference, you know!!!), our family did celebrate Christmas.. We have many atheist friends who celebrate Christmas, but not as the birth of Jesus CHrist. Instead, they celebrate it simply as a time for families to get together, give and receive gifts, be happy, and to get out of school!!!!!!!!!!

First off, you celebrate Christmas because the ancient Romans celebrated the festival of Mithras in late December. No other reason. There isn't a shred of evidence in the Bible or anywhere else that christ was born on Dec. 25. So wake up out of your little fantasy world and do some research (I know, a hard concept for you fundies).
Second, Christmas is a time for families to come together. On a more practical note, it's the only time everyone has the day off. So all the families can get together, give presents, and generally celebrate the beginning of winter at the same time. Same reason Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are celebrated in December.
So the real question is, why are you fundies always so uneducated as to think you have a lock on morals, celebrations, and general good will? In reality you bring more strife, chaos, and elitism than any atheist.

My ex boyfriend's mother was an atheist. She celebrated Christmas by having a dinner, and exchanging gifts, but she never had a Christmas tree. She never had anything that had to do with Santa Claus (as he is Saint Nicholas) in her house either.
To her it was just a time of year to celebrate having the family together and to show them this, you would buy them a little something and plan a dinner get-together.
It was pretty weird to go there on Christmas sometimes...but really not all that different from other people I've known who "sorta" believed in God, but weren't really all that religious.

Yes, of course. Christmas has become about more than just religion. Do you think G/J had Santa Clause in mind on the first Christmas. It's a time of year where most are happy and extra nice to each other. Believers or not, I would hope this would make G happy.

I do, but because the only thing Christian about Christmas is the name for all intents and purposes. Every other aspect (birth of a deific man, tree, date, gift giving, etc...) was borrowed from other religions.
Besides, it's more a cultural holiday than a religious holiday any more.

It could have less to do with Jesus' birthday. In the end it's Christmas, not CHRIST - mas.

No. We only celebrate a holiday when we are with family and friends who believe.
