well first of all i would say dont get an overly small dog.. like no chihuahuas or miniatures of already small breeds. they sometimes have problems if not carefully bred and come from a respectable breeder. Some terriers are very good but some are barky and like to dig. Basically I would go with the personality of the dog. when you pick it out make sure this is the kind of dog you want to live with for a very long time

All small breeds can be great house pets. But you'll need to do research on the individual breeds, to make sure their energy level doesn't conflict with your lifestyle. Also make sure to take time to look into the health conditions that the individual breed is known for.

A miniature maltese is a good small house dog because they stop growing at five pounds and they don't shed.

I don't like small dogs. They're too yappy. My dad just got a small dog and all it does is bark. It barks at absolutely nothing and drives me nuts! High pitched yap yap yap all day long. And she chews on everything!

chihuahuas. you can litter box train them, despite the weirdness, paper train them, or outdoor train them. They are very smart, live a long time, and can be kept in a small area. They are very affectionate and don't eat alot, unless you want to over fed them. I know all this, for i have a fat, healty, love able, black chihuahua.

IT DEPENDS , YOU HAVE TO REALIZE IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE SOME DOGS ARE VERY FRAGILE, LIKE THE CHIHUAHUA, SMALL CHILDREN LIKE TO PICK THEM UP, AND ACCIDENTLY DROP THEM BECAUSE SOME STIFFEN UP, AND BOXERS CAN BE INTIMIDATING TO THEM, IT DEPEENDS ON THE AGE GROUP IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD. I WOULD DO SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET OR YOUR LOCAL PET STORE FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.

It really depends on excactly what you want. Do you have time to spend time on extensive training? Do you have small children. We have a purebred pug puppy, and she is absolutlely wonderful, she does not need a lot of excersise, and she is usually calm.
