First rule out a medical issue like a urinary tract infection. If that is all fine I would say that your pup has hit his adolescent phase or depending on when he is doing it, seperation anxiety. Just like adolescence in humans, dogs will often "lose or ignore" training such as housetraining or obedience as they try to test out some independence. My pitbull nearly drove me nuts for a few months (went from perfect puppy to the terrible twos), just when he ended this stage I found a great book called "Surviving your Dog's Adolescense".

A dog can be easily trained around the age of one year. But after a year or even sometime before it can be very difficult. one thing to think about is how long the dog was in the shelter the dog was probably never taken outside to do their business, and since she was in the shelter to begin with the previous owners more than likely didn't spend anytime with the dog for proper training. just keep it up make sure the dog goes out every two hours. there is chemicals you can buy to prevent the dog not to due it's business in the house. but I wouldn't let the dog in until you know that the dog done it's business. this may be an inconvenience but it will pay off in the long run.

Is he on any medication? Medication can make a dog go potty more. if he is not full grown yet, give him more time. Take him out right after he eats each time. That way he can learn to go potty outside. When I found Duke outside, I thought he was a puppy. Nope. He potted inside the house for about 2 months- and we were treating him like a pup giving him doggy treats for going outside. We took him to the vet and we were told he was about 2 years old. He did learn to potty outside though. Boy dogs will probably potty inside house more than females.

Your dog is probably scared for some reason or just got sick. I have a dog that is also potty trained and she was getting sick and going potty in the house, but my family was sick and dogs can get what we get. My mom also started working at our house and there was a lot of clients coming to our house and my dog thought that she needed to mark her territory by going potty. If you want to you should take her to the vet.

Maybe he has a urinary tract infection? Sometimes when things have changed in the home, they will do that too. You should take him to the vet to make sure he is ok health wise to rule that out first. Try offering the outside to him every two hours for now until you can get him to the vet, just to put him on a schedule.

I hope he clears up. Merry Christmas.

Just because a dog is trained at 8 months doens't mean it still doens't need discipline - consistent and persistent discipline.

try taking obedience classes so that YOU can learn how to train your dog.

have you brought in a new animal?...My potty trained dog gets pissed when other animals are in the house or if we get a new animal. So she will pee in the back of the house...She stops when We get rid of the new animal.

Possible stress. Take him out more often; wait with him, 3 mins or so; if he doesn't poo/pee bring him back and try again in an hour. Praise him ALOT when he does his business outside. Goodluck.

He probably has an urinary track infection which should be seen by a vet.
