I would like to have another holiday when the weather is nicer and I don't want ot move to South America.

I don't want to go to Australia, I could never get use to driving on the left when I was in England.

And Africa, once you've seen one Third World County, you've seen them all.

Well, considering jesus was born in April....

Jesus's "birthday" was actully on April 1st (the year is currently being debated). So yes, celebrate Christmas on jesus' actual birthday. The only reason we celebrate it on Dec. 25th was because that was orginially a Pagan holiday and christians decided to take it over. Saturnalia was a tradition inherited by the Roman pagans from an earlier Babylonian priesthood. December 25 was used as a celebration of the birthday of the sun god. It was observed near the winter solstice.

The apostles in the Bible predicted that some Christians would adopt pagan beliefs to enable them to make their religion more palatable to the pagans around them. Therefore, some scholars think the church chose the date of this pagan celebration to interest them in Christianity. The pagans were already used to celebrating on this date.

The Bible itself tells us that December 25 is an unlikely date for His birth. Palestine is very cold in December. It was much too cold to ask everyone to travel to the city of their fathers to register for taxes. Also the shepherds were in the fields (Luke 2:8-12). Shepherds were not in the fields in the winter time. They are in the fields early in March until early October. This would place Jesus' birth in the spring or early fall. It is also known that Jesus lived for 33.5 years and died at the feast of the Passover, which is at Easter time. He must therefore have been born six months the other side of Easter - making the date around the September/October time frames.

You could move to Australia then, it's warm there during Christmas.

And there is another holiday in July, it's called INDEPENDENCE DAY. You could buy presents if you want too.

Then all the Christmas lights would compete with the air-conditioners and what then? And the whole sytem would go kaplooey. Got any more bright ideas?

I do not think we can move it. but if it was proved that Jesus was born April 12 I suppose it could be celebrated then but would be given a different name not necessarily canceling Christmas although they could give it a new name.

Not in any society. However I do believe that December is not the true birth of Jesus. It is derived from a pagan holiday.

Ridiculous. In practically all religions and cultures, including those christianity was insipired by, the festival of death and rebirth is in the winter, when it's coldest and the days are shortest.

It's possible, Because christ really wasn't born on christmas, that is just the day that people picked to SIGNIFY his birth. It really wouldn't matter what month you put it in as love as you were celebrating his birth.
