I think what it means by House of God is "consecrated to the worship of God". Mosques, churches, chapels, synagogues, temples, Baha'i Houses of Worship are all places where people glorify the one true God of all faiths and denominations. They are not particularly owned by God, as God is the owner of all things, whether sacred or profane.

Why would I think that?

If I believed in God, the whole world would be his property - his footstool they call it
