After researching the state of the orphanages and many female Chinese orphans (many die in the orphanages), my fiancee and myself have decided that we would be much more fulfilled adopting a child from China as our second or third child, rather than adopting domestically, which is in no way an ideal situation, but where welfare is guaranteed.

I've researched a little on the process, from what I've seen it should cost somewhere between 15,000-25,000. Is this accurate?

Also, what should we expect in the adoption process, at what intervals do reports need to be taken and such?

Thanks for any information you guys have!

My girlfriend adopted a beautiful little girl from China last year, and is now considering adopting a second next year. They told her it would take over a year, but it took her approximately 10 months start to finish (getting her baby and bringing her home). She had to fill out a bunch of forms. Send in credit checks, criminal histories, driving records, financial information, home information, income, etc. etc. They came out to her home several times to interview her during the course of the 10 months. China also does a thorough investigation of the application, and they respond with info they want clarification on. Once you are approved, then your name is put into the hat for adoption. They also followup on the home after you adopt your child. It cost her approximately $19000 going through a reputable adoption agency. Anything else would be crazy. Good luck - and may you be blessed indeed if you adopt a baby.

We are waiting to adopt, currently from within our county, but have looked into other countries too. A lot depends on your agency. I have heard as high as $30,000. As far as a time line to get in line, ours, which is domestic, took a few months. I believe we 1st had our fingerprints run, to make sure your not a sex offender, and soon after those came back as clear, we had our homestudy done. We are now ok'd to adopt and have been waiting 6 months.
Good luck, I think that it is wonderful that you are choosing to adopt.

I know a couple of people that have done it. From what I have heard it is not adoption as we know it. You go and spend 5,000 in cash and they take care of everything else. Good Luck
