Who said they were? I think all the branches are equally tough. They each face different challenges and have different jobs to do.

Well everyone has their opinion, I will say this, as a 20 year Army Vet. I truly believe that all of our Military Forces are highly trained and VERY proud of their branch of service as they all should be. Rarely have I met a Vet that has dis-respected the other branches of service, this is mostly done by Military Wannabes and Civilians. More likely, a Vet is liable to tell you one of the other services is better than theirs, IE an Army Vet saying: "man, the Air Force has the best food, I'd join them before I'd join the Army again" or something like that. I would suggest to you that you check into all branches and then make a choice as to who can offer you what you think is best. But if you want to raise one over the rest as being "toughest"? No offense, but I'd say maybe you have a little more growing up to do. Just my thoughts.

Taking an average Marine and putting him next to a Navy Seal, or Army Special Forces or Air Force Combat Controller, I would be hard pressed to say the Marine was the toughest or best trained.

The Marine Corps seeks out young, idealistic, adventurers who can past muster in boot camp. Boot camp is tough. both mentally and physically. Most of these youngsters have not seen the rigors thought up by the Corps that will toughen them mentally and physically.

The Corps doesn't teach bravery and courage, because these are quality's each man has to teach himself. They do teach teamwork, dependence on one another, loyalty to your unit. They practice not leaving a comrade behind, no matter what his condition, dead or alive. They encourage all missions to be completed, no matter how difficult.

The Marine Corps has a saying: "The Marines can do anything, however the impossible takes a little longer." They live by this credo and believe in it. When you're eighteen years old, you can do damn near anything the Corps tells you that you can do.

I think it is because they are the first ones to go in in combat. They have to be the toughest.

They're cooked longer. The Army is a bit more tender. I'd say about medium-well. The Navy and Air Force are about medium to medium-rare.
