While it is true the some people that profess to be Christian take the phrase from the Bible 'founding of the world' literally, it is colorful, or poetic language.
The earth according to the Bible can be as old as millions of years.
The Bible as regards mankind, however, only says that human life on the earth is about 7000 years.
and even though I don't believe in evolution, this would even harmonize with that theory.The reason being, that the real history of 'modern' man is about 7000 years.

I'll start with the comment. Young earth creationists believe the earth was created in 6 days. The sea animals and birds on days 5 and the land animals on day 6. So, a plesiosaur was probably made on day 5 and a T-Rex (which originally ate plants by the way) was created on day 6. "Dinosaurs" were more than likely mentioned specifically in the Bible. Behemoth and Leviathan are 2 of them. Dinosaur (meaning terrible lizard) was not made a word until 1849. Before that time they were probably known by their own species, not as a humongous group of animals (that include both flyers and swimmers besides the land animals).

Science was started by Christians, because they assumed that an orderly God would have created an orderly place, so they thought of ways to figure out the world and what is in it.

There are NO RECORDS from before 7000 yrs ago. There are fossils and dirt and water. Like David T and others have stated, we have these things, now they need to be interpreted. Assuming all things have always been as they are now, some people have read the facts, and interpreted them to mean that the earth must have been around a long time. But, many scientist are finding that catastrophes explain a lot of facts better than "always the same" does. Some don't go so far as to say the earth is only a few thousand years old, but some are finding if you start at the assumption that the Word is true, the facts line up, even better than those that start with the assumption that the earth is billions of years old. Each one adjust the scales by dates they believe to be true (like fixing a temperature gauge at freezing and boiling) and work out from there.

Ignorance is nothing to be ashamed of, unless you are spouting off your mouth about things you do not understand as if you understood them. You probably are not a dumb kid, you just believe what you were indoctrinated to believe. I hope you come to realize the truth before it is too late.

I think you're not realizinf how inaccurate thosestudies are about fossils. Even if they are true, who's to say God didn't create the earth with old fossils already under the ground, just to test our faith in him?

Here's another study, a more recent accurate one than fossil aging. It's about our sun. Since it's a star using gas to burn, obveoustly that gas is gonna run out sometime. The sun is shrinking. And studies with reflecction and shadoes on this one island show that it's shrinking 5 feet each hour.

If the universe itself is billions of years old, than the size of the sun back then would have been so large, it would be engulfed Mercury, our closest planet, at the time we supposedly had an "ice age"

It's a good debate question, but a little out of date.

I am a Christian. I am not a Christian extremist. I do not believe that God created the earth 6,000 years ago. The Bible does not teach that God created the earth 6,000 years ago. That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard as well. So we are in agreement there. Earth is what, about 4 1/2 billion years old? This does not contradict the teaching of the Bible.

Your post is a little extreme, however. Don't you think?

God created the universe. whether it was 6 million yrs ago our 6 thousand its not a big issue to me. I think that if God wanted us to care about such irrelevant issues he would have put it in the bible. So what is your question now. Are you going to turn down Gods offer of eternal life through Christ because God didn't specify when he created the earth. Get over yourself buddy. leave God's business to him. if you just worried about human business you'd be better off. You know mankind is still trying to be God but still unsuccessfully. When will we learn. I think that mankind will bring about an end to life on earth in the name of science. It seems that science has almost become a religion.
