Go the Best Buy and see the Geek Squad if you don't want to do it yourself.

No, don't go to just any local PC shop to do this. I would first contact the warrenty department and see what they can do for you to assist you with these problems. A computer has at least a one year warranty, and longer if you purchased an extended warranty. That is the first place to start.

You should also be aware that there is really few issues which would require a full reformatt of your hard drive and re-install of your OS. Most capable technicians would fix the issue rather than result to the drastic reformatt and re-installation of the OS, it is usually those less experianced or just plain lazy techs who decide on reformatting and re-installing over problems.

If the warranty department gives you a difficult time, push harder first, go above them to the persons boss. If that still does not get you the results you are looking for then do go to a computer repair shop, but not one of those big box shops like CompUSA, Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, etc, but rather take it to a smaller shop.

The reason for this is those big box shops really don't give much of a care about the level of their customer service as they get such a volumn of purchases they can afford to provide lousy customer service. The smaller shops, like The Geek Squad for example, have to provide good solid quality service in order to keep good business.

Good luck and have a great holliday season.

formatting and reinstalling residing house windows would not wipe your disk. With a $29 software or any style of freeware procedures, i will unformat your disk in a couple of minutes. It no longer demands a specialist to get better a formatted disk......believe ME, i've got executed IT ON a working laptop or workstation THAT MY interest "FORMATTED" AND GAVE TO ME. I RECOVERED some VERY comfortable HR DOCUMENTATION! Get Darik's Nuke and Boot. receive the ISO or floppy version (the iso is larger in case you could burn a cd photograph). it could take an hour or 2 with the widespread wipe, as much as 3 days with a branch of protection point of wiping. Boot the CD and hit enter for AUTONUKE.......... formatting will guard you from idiots, DoD wipe protects you from the extra technical human beings.

Check the documentation for your laptop as well, there might be a recovery partition on your computer that will reformat and reimage your windows files and clear the system for you.

That would be the best first step to take in order to restore the machine to factory defaults.

And it is far cheaper than paying 125-199 dollars to have them reformat and reinstall your windows OS.

As I know all laptops have Recovery CD, you can recover your computer using that CD ... After recovery your laptop will be like the first day you bought it ;)
But be careful about data loss, because some of them force you to recover your hard disks partitions (for sony laptops I know that recovery tool provides the ability to recover without doing anything to partitions) ... in that case you need to backup your files on another computer, DVD or Removable drives ...
