I have two solutions to your problem;

1.You are more than likely using the older version of Windows Media Player. There is a new version, 11.0, that works a lot better. here's a link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1d224714-e238-4e45-8668-5166114010ca&DisplayLang=en
Just highlight that, right-click, then click copy, then go up to where you type in a website, right-click, then paste. Free Download, too!

2. iTunes works absolutely perfect when ripping or "importing" CDs to a computer. You can download iTunes using this link:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Also free download! to import a CD with iTunes, just simply insert the disc and it will appear on the left side. click on the cd and it will pull up a menu. at the bottom right of the screen, there is a button that says import cd. click it and the rest will happen on it's own.

There should be a screen with all the songs showing that you have selected to rip. There is a status column and will show either pending or ripping. It goes in order from top to bottom and as its ripping each song, it shows the percentage completed. Once done, the status shows ripped to library.

on mine there are little tabs on the top that say library, rip, burn, etc i just go to the rip tab and rip my cd mine shows me when each individual song is done ripping. you can also go to the library without stopping your progress and see if the songs have shown up yet
