My dog decided to chase my cat today (very usual), except after this, my cat was limping and has held her left hind leg close to her body while laying on the couch. It looked as if she tweaked her body when getting away from our dog. It is Christmas Eve and no local vets are open. Does anyone have any ideas to what it might be, or have any treatment ideas?

She is not an outdoor cat so we won't have to worry about that. She just got up on it, but has thick fur so we cannot tell if it is swollen, dislocated, etc. She is putting VERY minimal pressure on it. Thanks for the input!

She may have just pulled a muscle or something but I would keep a close eye on her and if she doesnt get better I would take her to an emergency clinic. They are open 24/7 365 days a year.Good luck and Merry Christmas.

When something similar happened a year ago (the night before Thanksgiving!) I did take my cat to the emergency vet, but they couldn't get a clear x-ray (although I still paid for them ). They decided chances were she'd just sprained it, and advised me to keep her in a room where she wouldn't be jumping and climbing a lot, and that worked.

If the cat is in a lot of pain, she will probably keep to herself, maybe hide in a corner or under the bed--that's how you know there's definitely trouble. Otherwise, just keep an eye on her and try to keep her as quiet as you can. With a cat.

Well first check it over to make sure that there's no visible bumps or scraps on your cat's leg. Then, make sure there is nothing in your cat's paw(causes discomfort) If still you don't see anything odd, touch and push on different areas of the leg, seeing if one stop causes him more pain than the other spots. If it doesn't seem that your cat is in any pain let him/her walk it off and watch him/her over the next week, if not better, bring to vet. But if it does seem to feel pain, ice that area. If still in discomfort just wait until the vet opens. But make sure your cat stays off the leg, that means no dogs chasing it. Good Luck, hope your cat feels better, Merry Christmas.

if it doesn't get better within a day or two your should take it to the vet. if it is outdoors most of the time then maybe it got into a fight or something with another cat

Call the vet.

unlikely, but it might have something stuck in it like a thorn. more likely is that its like sprained it, and if it takes more than a few days or a week or two to heal it could be bad so take it to a vet.
