Plasma - a flat panel display technology that starts at 40 inches in screen size. Plasma is great for video because it yields a soft image, accurate colors and deep blacks.

LCD - a flat panel and projection technology. Flat panels start as low as 5 inches in screen size. Great for computers and okay for video. Yields bright and vibrant image and color. Some people say the image is too sharp with oversaturated colors. On poor quality LCD's, you can see ghosting or motion blur on fast moving action. LCD projection is great for computers, but has high pixelation and can experience burn-in easily

Projection - there are two types of projection (rear and front projection). Rear projection would be like those big DLP or LCD TV's 50" or larger. They are great for large screens, but viewing angle is limited. This means you will need to be near the center of the screen to see the image at normal brightness. The wider your viewing angle, the image gets dimmer and less clear. Front projection is like a data/video projector. This is a low-cost solution for a large image, such as a 10 foot image. Front projection requires near dark room because ambient light will drown out the image. Optimal solution requires ceiling mounting the projector.

HDTV is any television that receives and displays high definition video signal. By definition, the signal needs to be 720p, 1080i or 1080p. Some plasmas, LCD's and projection are HDTV's. Some are EDTV's, which means they receive a high definition signal, but displays at 480p.
