I have just been watching Van Helsing, and I love the curly hair that the lead girl in it had, what is the name for a perm like that please? and where would you recommend going? Any advice and technical info much appreciated.

I think you are talking about Kate Beckensdale's character. I loved it too. That looser wave it very hot right now. We wrap perms using glass jacks, and all kinds of other tools. Hardly ever use traditional perm rods, at least not in the conventional way-we can even use the largest rods (peachy orange color) and wrap hair in large sections instead of curl by curl. With this type of looser wave, you can use a diffuser to get more curl, or easily blow it out straight. I would call or go to a well known salon that has training in these new techniques, such as Toni and Guy Salon or JcPenny etc. Ask for "beachy waves" and maybe find a photo to bring along. Be wary if they ask you to get a "body wave", or what color rods you like to use, you will end up with a sprial perm or worse with an 1984 nightmare!!! ;)

i have been doing hairdressing for six years my advice would be to go to your hairdresser wiv a picture. but beware tho cause if you have a lot of colour in your hair you will not be able to get any chemical wrk on it cause it will end up in a frizzy mess. my advice would be to use the straigthers and curl it into a sprial it will bob up into ringlets but let it drop for an hour or so and it will be lovely. we have a lot of clients coming into the salon askin for this style and it is relly nice.

That is a spiral wave. It requires using a lot of rods each with a small section of hair. It doesn't work well on people with lots and lots of hair (gets too big) or with people with very fine hair.

i study hairdressing at college.
best thing to do is to get a picture of the style you like and take it with you when you go to the salon so your stylist knows excatley what you want.
