If a terrorist group was to set off a nuclear bomb in an American city, what would the US response be?

Could, or would, the US retaliate? I know, it depends on who did it,
but what if it was Bin Ladin's group? What if hundreds-of-thousands were killed?

Don't you think the government is watching us right now? If not think again.
If it were Bin Laden and his org. the government would send immediately the same bombs to where they believe the largest population of Bin Laden's people are.
The government has maps of the locations of terrorists and accociated terrorist. It looks like a spider web. We have nuclear bombs all over the world and hundreds of thousands of people to control them stationed all over the world particularly in countries that have a high threat level or countries we have invaded in the past. We have also allies that would deploy immediately to remote areas of the world to gather or kill known terrorists. The dna of the bomb would also tell the story of where the items came from. We would still prevail. It would be ignorant to think we would be destroyed by this. It would only make us stronger
and more invasive.

If the U.S wanted to fight a country they can easily do that.But terrorists are people and you can't just nuke them. This is what will happen with Iran if it gets nuked.The country will be radiated and defeated but the terrorists and their remaining crushed military will spread out and cause terrorism.So there is no way they can be nuked.I would say that the U.S would simply find the country resposible for giving the weapon and attack it with all force.And that will only happen if the country is North Korea and Iran.If it is Pakistan then there will be some what of a military tac tic discussion.If it was India which gave the weapon (very unlikely) then the U.S would plan the attack harder because it will not be easy bringing down India.If it was Russia and China then I suppose the U.S will have to do some serious defense training to make sure they have a successfull campeign.If the terroristshad their own nuke and created it themselves then they would be fought the old fashion way.And that is guerrilla warfare and killing the terrosists one by one.

I think the US would retaliate and it would not be pretty. Any Islamic country that is unfriendly to the US, like Iran or Syria would probably be attacked with Nuclear weapons. I think detonating a nuclear weapon in the US will lead to WWIII. That is our worst nightmare and also for the world.

Think of it this way. Look what happened when just under 3000 Americans were killed in 9/11. Now multiply that by a couple 100,000 and just imagine the American response. Right or wrong it would truly be terrible.

Well, it depends on when it happens. More than likely it'll happen after the Dems take control of the House and Senate which will in turn weaken the security of the U.S. When we get hit, the U.S. more than likely will not retaliate since the Dems are all about appeasement and sitting back like sheep. It's a sad day that the U.S. will not be able to defend itself from murderous groups who hate us for the freedoms we have.

I think the US would retaliate, we have NUK's that can reach any corner of the world with one inter-continental missal..... we can target up to 20 individual locations! one flip of the switch and .... well the weather would change and you now the rest. First... get the military and FEMA and NEST to the site.

Determine HOW the weapon got to the site (missile, aircraft, ground) ? Determine WHO built the weapon and who delivered the weapon ?

Then US Policy is to RESPOND IN KIND. It would be tricky of the weapon was built by North Korea but delivered by Al Queda... under the provisions of the UN Non-proliferation Treaty, the UN signator members would be REQUIRED to act. NATO members would also be required to act.

North Korea's weapons sites would be struck. A FULL search and destroy resolution would come from the UN against Al Queda and their supporters.
