Personally, I'd prefer to see you spend your money on something new. Go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscf828/ and read, especially the conclusion. Personally, I object to the noise level that shows up already at ISO 200.

For this money, you could have a new Nikon D80 or a Canon EOS 400D and a very nice lens.

See http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=464957&is=REG&addedTroughType=search where you will find a D80, 18-135 lens, 2 GB Sandisk Extreme III memory card, and a few more accessories for $1,285. This camera has it ALL OVER the Sony. The 18-135 lens would be a 35 mm equivalent of 27-200 which is almost an EXACT match of the Sony;s 28-200. In fact, please don't buy the used Sony on eBay. Buy the new Nikon. I've got nothing against eBay as I buy and sell there all the time, but I'd hate to see you spend the money on that camera when so much more quality is available for so much less.

I'm not a huge Canon fan, although I admit they are excellent cameras, but I'd rather see you buy a Canon than this Sony. I'll even put together a package for you to look at.

Here's the Canon EOS 400D and 17-85 image stablization lens for $1,180 and a 2 GB Sandisk Extreme III memory card for $65.

Please don't buy the Sony. Buy one of these and spend a couple hundred bucks on a great flash or something else you will actually use.

I was going to write a detailed answer but (yet again) I see Dr Sam has beaten me to it!

His opinion is well researched and totally accurate. The only suggestion I would make is to throw in a Speedlight SB600 flash into the mix and you should still stay under that budget. I am from the Nikon camp as well but I think the equivalent flash in Canon is the 480ex?

Either the Nikon or Canon DSLRs are truly excellent cameras, and you would be starting with new gear, full warranty and a "kit" that you can build on very easily no matter how professional you get.

It's okay for the $900 starting bid, but no way is it $1449. You can get the camera itself for about $550 so with the extra stuff it would be about $900 anything more would be ridiculous.

Looks like a good deal, but would you use all of the accessories, dont do an impulse buy, better to build your own collection of accessories to suit yourself .

Also its only got 2 months of warranty left??
