A lot of people don't really consider what Christmas is really all about, when they are celebrating Christmas, such as the birth of Christ.
The wise men gave presents.
People gave other people presents many years ago and it has become a tradition to give presents during this time of year.
Most people grow up with the idea that santa gives presents because a man dressed up this way during the season and gave out gifts. America has kind of popularized santa and in the process depopularized Christ. Most people don't really study their bible to know what Christmas means. Most parents don't sit their children down and teach them what Christmas is. Thus santa is popular.

Cause kids like toys. Jesus said "Let little children come unto me." But Santa gave them toys. If you're four which do you prefer, a guy who gives you toys, or a guy who says sweet things?

That is a good question. I suppose it's cause people prefer receiving gifts of earthly things instead of the spiritual gift of salvation.
