He might be a great scientist but when it comes to religion he resorts to mockery and straw man arguments he is no better then a religious fundementalist in fact his crass arguments on the programme "The Root Of All Evil?" were demolished by fellow scientists on a BBC Radio 4 programme by the way they were athiests.

I have read some of his books and have watched him on tv when it comes to religion he uses negative stereotypes and ignores the good that believers have done in the world . Its not like that Atheist regimes have a great track record take Stalin's Russia where religion was oppressed hang on is Atheism just a form of religion and Dawkins its Archbishop?

When Dawkins talks to a student at Oxford who has problems reconciling Evolution which a strong Faith, and this causes anxiety, he advises the student to see the college chaplain.

Dawkins thinks that most CE chaplains are kind, compassionate people (see his website) and would understand the problem.

Is this an action of an intolerant bigot?

No, I dont - look at the stupidity he's faced with - moronic creationists rejecting the facts of evolution - things like this - quoted from an earlier answer "the Selfish Gene idea is ludicrious, genes don't think..."

That person obviously only knows the book only by its title. Why are some religious people so eager so display their ignorance?

'The God Delusion' systematically destroys every possible notion that a religious person would cling to as a reason for believing in God. As far as mockery, I don't think he goes overboard in that area but really ridicule and mockery are all that can be used with people who are out of reach of reason and logic and hide behind 'faith' as an excuse for not THINKING.

Who's the bigot here?
His arguments were solid, but he had difficulty getting anyone religious to be even slightly open to the idea of something different. He had the guts to say something about the insanity of religion. Yes he got frustrated but he was facing some pretty intolerant people.

Mr Dawkins is a brilliant man. The fact that creationists cannot get past their narrow minded view on the world is no reason to attack this man. Anyone who honestly believes that the world is only 4000 years old and takes the bible literally is a few cards short of a deck, but it is their opinion and belief...so let them be. As they say: The truth hurts

some are, i'm particular, yet i've got have been given met so lots greater religious people who're bigots. Sounds to me such as you're as properly, calling all atheists bigots - probably basically via actuality we disagree with you.

No-one is perfect. Religious types are upset because Dawkins tells them some very difficult truths that everyone knows to be true, but only reallly honest and courageous people can face up to.

No, I don't. He simply applies reason to religion which often means it looks silly. I often think that in religious arguments you replaced the word God with fairies or unicorns you would see how ridiculous it is.
I think he does get frustrated with very religious and intolerant people who refuse to admit the slightest problem with religion. Also people often attack him so he attacks them back and then people only show the side of him attacking religious people.

Also I have seen him on television saying that he would change his mind if actual proof of God existed.

Dawkins is very well educated, and is acknowledged worldwide as a fine scientific mind, a leader in his field. He obviously grows frustrated that myth and superstition are promoted as fact, and that FEW PEOPLE HAVE EVER read anything he has written, but still attack him from an uninformed position. I personally would rather have just one brilliant Dawkins than an army of Bible truth bigots.

He is no more intolerant than any Christian minister who feels strongly about their beliefs. I'm often approached by people in the street asking me to 'find God', I politely tell them that I've spent a long time trying and have had no success. He feels that religion is bad for the world and wants to 'cure' the world of it's virus.
If you knew the cure for Cancer wouldn't you want people to know about it?

Who cares! Disbelief in God doesn't make you a bigot. I doubt very much they demolished anything. Only the beliefs of people who chose to believe in them. xx
