like I enjoy my life without an ipod, i enjoy my life without fancy clothing, like I enjoy my life with a simple computer, living in an actual house not a mansion and not having all the material goods of the today's generation

It means caring about the gift giver and recipient, and not the cost of the gift. It also means assessing a gift on its intent and purpose. Most importantly, it is realizing what the gift stands for, which is to show caring, love and consideration for another person. A truly non-materialistic person appreciates the effort, and not the gift receipt to exchange the gift later.

Someone who is not materialistic might be described as altruistic.

to be materialistic means you want everything (spoiled brat)
so to be nonmaterialistic means that you are happy with homemade gifts and just knowing that somebody cares,etc

It means you don't care for things you can own like...shoes, rings, computers, playstations, cell phones...having that stuff isn't important to you.

While to other people...like me...it is!

Limit yourself on what you think you should have as far as things go...do away with pure luxury items and value things for their usefulness.
