I need a pet to love. The problem is I can’t decide between a dog and cat and getting both is not an option. I had a bad experience that last 5 long years with a cocker spaniel. I love dogs, but I’m afraid of dogs now. He was the worst dog I ever owned. He barked ALL the time at EVERYTHING. After 4 years of pottying on command he decided he had enough of going outside to use the bathroom. At this time I learned I had diabetes and serious high blood pressure. When I came home from work I had to clean poop smashed into the bottom of his crate. Thinking this was a health issue I took him to the vet only yo find out he was in perfect health. Training classes didn’t work. I had a pit-bull who was potty trained to a litter box and she was an angel and this little dog was a demon from hell. I’m afraid of having an experience like this again. I want a dog but I can’t go through that again. I want a pet that is happy on my lap. I would enjoy it going everywhere with me, but I don’t think cats are like that. What toy dog breeds do you guys suggest or would a cat just be a better option.

You should get a cat for a couple of reasons.
1. They potty in a litter box
2. They are great lap animals
3. You won't have to worry about training
4. No barking
5. Not as expensive as a dog
6. You are less likely to get a demon cat than a demon dog
7. There are more homeless cats than dogs

I could go on but I think 7 is enough. Just be sure to get the cat fixed so you don't have to worry about spraying and unwanted kittens. Males are usually more loving than females so you should get a male.

My personal advice is a lab, yes they are big, but htey are the most sweetest lovable dog you could ever have. I have a 10 mth lab puppy, she's a lot of work , many attention and playing, but all she wants to do is give me love and cuddle me, she just wants to please everyone. You just need patience, mine learned potty traing right away, just gotta keep at it , we took her out every hour on the hour when we first got her, now when she has to go, she actually will come up to me gice a little sound, make me follow her to the door, or just go tot the door and bark. They are very smart and lovable creatures!!

My friend bought a little ferret last year that is just adorable and loves to cuddle. They don't bark, they go in a litter box and they love to play in boxes with styrofoam pellets. Get it one of those tall cages to keep in when you are not at home. He also hides in one of her desks drawers and goes to sleep in there. I do not know if you can take them everywhere with you, but that is not always practical anyway.

Like the other person said, if you do not like barking then don't get a dog. It is a natural, defensive and protective thing for them to bark. I used to have a LhasaPoo (LhasaApso and Poodle mix) that loved to sit on my lap, go for walks and car rides, but he did have a yappy bark. LhasaApsos are protective of their masters and warn them of danger.

I love my bettas. They are low maintaince compared to other pets. I have to change the water, feed them, make sure they aren't sick and treat the water if needed. But I don't have to walk them, pet them, change the litter box or let them outside. The food is about three dollars and lasts for years. Not ten bucks at least a month. I love the little boys I have.

if you want a dog go to a dog rescue site and you can get a dog that is already trained to be an angel. If you don't want to take the time to train them properly then get yourself a cat.

Sounds like to me that you need a bowl of fish...they are totally quiet, and very low maintenance...........I have a betta...they are beautiful to look at, and easy to keep. But I prefer my pit bull, he is a better companion. Happy Holidays!

check out your local pet shelters and find a pet you connect with i prefer cats & lots of cats like to sit in your lap especially some of those you might find at a shelter as long as your willing to give love they are willing to give it back unconditionally
good luck!
