BAGHDAD, Iraq - Four American soldiers were killed in weekend explosions, the U.S. military said Sunday, and a suicide bomber killed at least seven Iraqi policemen north of the capital.
Three soldiers from the 89th Military Police Brigade, were killed Saturday in east Baghdad when a roadside bomb detonated, the U.S. military said. The fourth, assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, died Saturday in an explosion in Diyala east of the Iraqi capital.
With their deaths, at least 2,969 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq
war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

My Words follow. Notice that even the AP calls the occupation of Iraq, "the Iraq War".
Should we withdraw our forces from the occupation of Iraq?
I say yes, get them out of that civil war, our service men are not the worlds police force. Let the Iraqis solve their own problems. If Syria and the Saudis back the Sunni Militia then let them kill each other off. According to the UN Over 625,000 civilians have died in Iraq already, another 450,000 have fled the civil war to Jordan.
We need to get our service men out before one more dies to protect Iraq Oil money. The Shiites want the oil money and the Sunnis want the oil money, so do the Kurds. Let them die for it.

sleepy, you failed to mention what that bigger picture was. Do you have any facts to support that wild claim?

leogirl, as always no clue. Care to define that "mission" Bush has not done so. This is your chance to do what Bush can not.

Keith, you do know that the Shiites are the same as Irans Shiites. Iraqis hate Democracy, they prefer a "islamic republic" just like Irans. How do i Know this? I ask an Iraqi, he told me.

Wow Leogirl, 11,627 answers and only 6 percent best, you really don't have a clue do you. BTW, was it the old Republican controlled House that voted to support Israel or the new Democrat control? I am very sorry for your overwhelming loss, I hope your not too depressed by it.

Yancy, ty, we dis agree on many points. One point is that Iraq must want Democracy, they don't. They prefer a "Islamic Republic" form of government just like Iran. Yes Iran could be the big winner. They are of course mostly Shiites arabs. The Saudis have already said they will back the Sunnis. All sides want the oil money, the bigger question is; Do we want to own Iraq?. Have we ever wanted to own the oil money? I think not.

91106, Iraq has nothing to do with Sept 11th. Get your facts straight. Bin Laden is not in Iraq. Also 15 of the 19 hijackers were of Saudi decent not Iraqis.
Sept 11th. was Bush's greatest failure to protect the American people. He was told by PDB that terrorist were determined to atttack the USA. He was also told they were in this country, that's on Bush. He should be impeached for that failure.

Yes they should leave Iraq. They are going to have another Vietnam on their hands. How much more can the American public pay in taxes for this war? Bush lied to his people just like Nixon did in the past. In fact the British public have lost faith in Blair. Blaming him for supporting Bush, Blair own party had put pressure on him to step down as leader this summer. What did the damage to the war in Iraq was the ill treatments of prisoners there shock the world, and the USA has lost creditability world wide.

Hmmm, I'd do some more homework. It's not as easy as that. Though I agree that we are doing more harm than good. The problem stems from mismanagement. Bush, Rumsfeld and others didn't do thier homework as well prior to sending troops into Iraq. As you and I may easily guess, the war in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terrorism. The next target is Iran and Iran knows this. What do you think our government would do if the old Soviet Union blustered about attacking the United States? Oh, we already know that answer through the Cuban missile crisis. Should we get out of Iraq? Let's consider credibility. Let's consider how quickly Iran would move into to capture a weakened Iraq. Let's consider the next few generations in Iraq and what such a quick withdraw might reflect to them. Now as far as allowing the Syrians and Saudis to move in and kill off those whom we disagree with, isn't that idea as absurd as the ideals of Hitler? That's like suggesting that destroying Isreal is the answer to the problem of the middle east and you and I know that that idea is a long dream for many. But if we want to help, the solution is to not back out but to become much more proactive with a society whose beliefs are much, much different than ours. It is not our job to change the way they live thier life but to allow them the freedom to find thier own path. The United States created the problems with the attack on Iraq and now it's time for the United States to step to the plate.

Iraq was a war we should not have gotten into but now, for us to pull out and just leave would be a disaster as well. We do have a moral obligation to the Iraqis that have worked for the US and supported us there. (Who do you think fills in the jobs and menial labor over there like translators?) If we were to just pull out, those people and their families would be targets. I think that the best thing for us to do is to support the government troops by training and supplies and let them do all of the patrols and dirty work. We should keep our troops in either northern Iraq or on the borders of Iraq and leave the metropolitan areas like baghdad to the Iraqis. I think just throwing more troops (Not that we can afford to do that anyways) without a specific exit plan just leaves our soldiers as walking cannon fodder.

I don't think they can. I believe they invaded the wrong country anyway. It should have been Iran That is the real threat to the rest of the world. Iran and for some reason Pakistan worries me as I think they are hiding Bin Laden. They certainly allow the taliban to move back and forth freely. Will we ever have peace again??? Have we ever had peace???? I don't know why certain faiths cannot just live and let live.

Iraq was ruled by Saddam Hussein with iron hand. Now differences have come on surface. Only solution is democracy , people should enter into dialog to remove differences. Abrupt withdrawal of forces would lead to disruption.
I agree with you that American service men are not the worlds police force. Do you think that Iraq was attacked to help the Iraqi people. It was a part of global strategy to protect American interest.

To answer your original question. NO. I get upset to hear all this talk about how many soldiers have been killed today, this week, this month. Even though any death is a loss, we have not loss many more than the number that was lost in one day on 9/11.

How many folks have been killed today on our streets in homicides? How many have been killed on our streets today in car wrecks? How many have died today on drug overdoses? How many have died today on domestic disputes?

You have to put this into some type of perspective and even though the number killed in Iraq is nearing 3,000 the next attack in the US will probably be more than that, heaven forbid.

If we have to suffer losses lets do it over there vs here.

NO!!! Not until every idiot in that country has been put in check and a great democracy is created in that country. These people want to fight like savages and should be treated as savages. For every US soldier killed in IRAQ, on that day, ten Iraq's should be randomly pulled off the street and shot. Two weeks of this action and the violence would stop.

Not until the mission is accomplished. We can not quit and run,,, if we get out without accomplishing our mission the repercussion that will have, is very dangerous to the security of our country, no other country will respect or trust us, it will be something that we as Americans can not permit..Once you go into battle you can't be talking about quiting, you have to do things to win and then get out. Once you're in, you can't quit just like that. It's not that easy. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We are there for the wrong reasons. We were lied to by the president. Our men and women are coming home in body bags and wheel chairs. There are more terrorists now than when we went in. Iraq is now more dangerous than before the war. We must get out now. Let the Iraqis deal with their problem. Bring our troops home.

If we do a full pullout Iraq will inevitably be destroyed. Our troops need to be there to help the side with the best intentions win. we do NOT need to be directly involved in thier civil war but we need to ehlp bring it to a peaceful and quick end. Remember this, We started this thing and we are backing the side that agrees with us, if we pull out we are turning our back on them, they will then hate us and probably join the other side and we will end up with another Islamic Extremist nation hell bent on destroying the US and everything it stands for.
