It is a very good medication for depression. I had to stop taking it because it raised my already high blood pressure.

450 is a high dose (the highest recommended dose actually.) I've been taking Wellbutrin for the depression part of my bipolar for about 8 years at 300 mg. Out of 19 different psych meds, I have found this one to be the most helpful with least side effects. (I am on 3 other medications as well...but the Wellbutrin is one I don't change because it works for me.) It has the qualities of a mild stimulant, so it can - theoretically- be somewhat helpful for ADHD as well (although I have not found it to help in that area all that much.) From what I've been told by mental health professionals though, it generally has minimal effects on ADHD symptoms.

At 300 mg a day, the risk of seizure is 1 in 1000. The risk is higher as the dose goes up, but it still isn't that bad. Personally, I have had no problems with it. If you have ever had a seizure (or a bad head injury or an eating disorder), this is not the medication for you.

Wellbutrin is the exact same medication as Zyban, which is prescribed to help people quit smoking. They are both bupropion.

Wellbutrin is used to treat depression and in smoking cessation..

The following is copied from: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a695033.html

"Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL) is used to treat depression. Bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking. Bupropion is in a class of medications called antidepressants. It works by increasing certain types of activity in the brain."

I used Wellbutrin after my Cornary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery on 10/04/2006 to help me stop smoking. It worked very well for that purpose. I took it for only a month. I had little or no problem from the drug, though it was not the right medication for my mental disorder. I am bipolar and Wellbutrin doesn't work for that condition. In fact, it does the opposite of what a bipolar person needs. I went back onto Paxil and am doing just fine. I'm still not smoking,

Check the link above or those below for complete information on Wellbutrin.

Sincerely,
Terry

I am bipolar and take wellbutrin with Depakote and zoloft. THe zoloft eased my anxiety but left me very depressed I couldn't even get out of the bed in the morning. Since taking Wllbutrin (3 weeks now) I've seen a tremendous difference. I am under a psychiatrist care. These drugs are nothing to fool around with and you should understand their purposse and side effects.

It's generic name is bupropion and it's most commonly used as an antidepressant. It's also used to treat anxiety disorders, nicotine withdrawal and some other conditions. Since you're taking it and if you smoke and want to quit now is the time. It's very helpful for the withdrawal symptoms. Going cold turkey off cigarettes I would be miserable for days but using this drug I only had very mild withdrawal symptoms for only a day or two.

It's for depression, also can be used for quitting smoking. I've been on it for a few years after trial and error with a few other medications, and it has been a godsend. No weight gain and no hyper or manic feeling, just lifts the depression and makes you feel like you can get out of bed in the morning and be productive. It worked for me.

Depression, anxiety, mood issues. It's also marketed under another the name Zyban which is used on a short-term basis as an aid to stop smoking. I started taking it several years ago to deal with stress-related issues and it's worked great for me. I never had true clinical "depression", just more trouble dealing with the physical effects of a very high-pressure job (tooth grinding, tension headaches/neckaches, heart palpitations, etc.) I used to take the extended release version, but like the non-extended release version better (they're purple).

It all depends. I weigh more than you and I was taking about 600mg QD and my depression wasn't getting much better. My fiancee (who's a big man, btw) was on 300mg QD, and he was doing much better. There isn't really a typical dose, just like there isn't a typical case of depression (or whatever you're being treated for).

If you are taking it you should ask your doctor for the specific reason.

This is used for several things such as depression, anxiety and stress. It can be used to help one quit smoking too. I know people that have taken it for both reasons.

"webmd.com" can give you a wealth of information on it's different uses - I'd check it out on this site for more details and facts.
