A lot of this question didn't make sense to me. Are you asking whether we should consider atheists mentally ill because of their disbelief?
If so, of course not. Religious belief is closer to mental illness than atheism. Religious belief enables the person to be absolutely sure that an unknowable, incomprehensible "god" which possess unknowable attributes in an unknowable way exists and that we should all worship this "god".

Some will answer yes. This, of course, means that according to them almost all people for as long as there have been people have been mentally ill or deluded. Interesting, I believe there is an actual mental disorder where one thinks everyone else is insane. I can't remember what it's called at the moment. This is typical for atheists - they function on double standards. They will say everyone else is mentally ill when there is an actually mental illness that makes them feel that way.

No being an atheist is not some kind of mental illness anymore than people who go around constantly telling others to believe as they do and that they are the only ones who know "the way". If you are really concerned about mental illness, study yourself and be sure that you don't have a type of it. No offense intended but this question is absurd.

Hmm, I disagree. In calling atheism a "mental illness" you're giving it an antagonistic and negative label, and thus is becomes harder for Christians to convert said atheists.
The Bible says that it is "the fool in his heart says there is no God"
so I would think that a better label for disbelief or atheism would be "foolishness," not a mental illness.

Put down the egg nog and try re-typing this because it makes very little sense. Freud considered people who believed in religion to be suffering from a form of self-delusion, so the same could be said of those who do believe in religion. I certainly don't believe in your grammar or syntax.

Actually it's the other way around. People who believe in imaginary things are usually mentally unstable and should be institutionalized. This is why all Christians should be put in mental institiutions until they get better.

Atheism means disbelief in supernatural entities. It does not mean we are insane or that we have a mental illness.

Well you idea.....is interesting....
One must look at the scriptures for correct answer.
As you know we are all given free will.God will never force your hand at anything.
So too, with excepting Him...and the Bible also talks about the HEART!...and how hard it can get, and bitter.
So we think more on terms, like the heart...is (excuse the pun) ''at the heart of the problem''!!..our own stubborn self.

Atheism is not believing in god.
You can be an atheist and be spiritual. Get your terminology straight.
