The short answer is that our English term is derived from the Greek noun, ‘biblos,’ which, at the time the New Testament was written, referred to a scroll. Many English translations of the New Testament render the Greek term as, “book,” rather than as, “scroll.” Each of the books of the New Testament would have originally been penned on individual scrolls. In contemporary English, the word, “Bible,” is used collectively to refer to the various books that make up the Old and New Testaments. Jesus and writers of the Christian Greek Scriptures referred to the collection of sacred writings as "the Scriptures," or "the holy Scriptures," "the holy writings." (Mt 21:42; Mr 14:49; Lu 24:32; Joh 5:39; Ac 18:24; Ro 1:2; 15:4; 2Ti 3:15, 16) The collection is the written expression of a communicating God ... the Word of God.

The Church existed before the Bible. The apostles and thru apostolic succession the Bible was being written and compiled. It is a natural process in publishing. The DEAD SEA SCROLLS prove just how accurate the Bible is considering how old it is.

The Bible is not 100% accurate but, there are some things to take into consideration before declaring the Bible an invalid source to believe in. You ask a lot of good questions.

There are some problems with the Bible and errors. Please remember, the Old Testament was passed down by oral tradition before the technology of writing was available. Compared to the Quran which existed long after the technology for writing was invented. So, yes there are errors.

Secondly, there are different ways to interpret based upon the "literary forms" of writers. Depending whether it is in a historical context, prophetic, poetry, or some other type of literary form. I believe Jesus Christ IS THE WORD of God. The Bible is written by people inspired by God.

If you took a Bible course and discovered what SCRIPTURAL TYPOLOGY is you would be amazed. If you knew what SALVATION HISTORY was in the Bible you would understand. If you recognized DIVINE AUTHORITY you would know that there has to be someone in authority to reveal the "secret" truths God has given. If you research all those phrases you will begin a journey of discovery that will last a life time.

We have a saying in Catholicism: the New Testament is hidden in the Old and the Old is revealed in the New. There are many mysteries contained in the Bible that I have been amazed at discovering for the past 20 years and there is a whole lot more. St. Jerome said: Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. The whole Bible is about our SALVATION: Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fulfilled over 300 prophesies in the Old Testament about the Messiah you can discover 50 of them in cd's IT IS WRITTEN.

WHEN YOU HAVE BEGUN TO DISCOVER THESE THINGS YOU WILL KNOW IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY MAN. Jesus (a historical figure along with others in the Bible that are not fictitional characters) by fulfilling just 50 prophesies makes the odds of doing that 10X135 power! An astronomical figure that could not have been achieved by human means.

The thing that might shock you and others is that SATAN used scripture to tempt Jesus. So, too Satan will use scripture to trip us up from following the true faith. This is why there has to be DIVINE AUTHORITY that passes from the Old Testament to APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION in the New Testament. This is why someone cannot Authoritatively pick up a Bible and correctly interpret it nor can there be millions of interpretors to HOLY SCRIPTURE. There can only be one!

Hope this helps! God bless you.

Gentleman it is not so much that I love them but I give them the respect I would hope to receive from them.Futhermore I am not going to love my enemies but I am going to try to change their attitudes.See it is better to change them then have them see you as a weak fool and walk over you. Also I do not covet what they have but be happy that they have reached the heights that they have.If I was the owner of the things they want I would share with them or try to teach them how to get to where I am.I am going to show them that jealousy, greed, vanity, blind hatred, and disregard for the rights of others is negative.I would put that all together and try to show them that being negative always leads to mistrust and wars and stealing and general chaos within the human condition.I would make it my mission to show everyone that pulling together regardless of race,creed,ethnicity,and/or religion is more counterproductive than useful to the human condition.Unless we can instill in a species of mammals such as humans with the brain to reason that the world is getting smaller constantly and the wave of the future is a Global Economy we are lost in chaos in a forever revolving door.Yes Gentleman take the Ten Commandments and restate them in a way that people today can understand and make sense of them the future is a hopeless cause. It will only be a matter of time before the jealousy and hatred blows us all up.That a world power is not based on how many nuclear weapons I have more than your country.Peace must prevail and understanding rather than build-up of military might. With that all I can envision is skulls and crossbones.Your Pal larry m

–noun
1.the collection of sacred writings of the Christian religion, comprising the Old and New Testaments.
2.Also called Hebrew Scriptures. the collection of sacred writings of the Jewish religion: known to Christians as the Old Testament.
3.(often lowercase) the sacred writings of any religion.
4.(lowercase) any book, reference work, periodical, etc., accepted as authoritative, informative, or reliable: He regarded that particular bird book as the birdwatchers' bible.

Bible simply means a collection of work that is considered authoritative on a particular subject. The Holy Bible is the authoritative work on God's plan of salvation and Christian living.

Don't be silly and and mince words, you know in your heart that the Bible is God's word, you just don't want it to be true.

Good question. I call it the Bible by convention, because I know it is the authoritative Word of God.

The word "money" doesn't appear on your currency either.
I guess it's of no use then, huh?

But you better look again for source information about the Bible being the word of God:

Our word "Bible" is from the Greek word "Biblios." Biblios means "book" or "scroll." Both words are found throughout the Old and New Testament. You don't know much about our "so called Bible" do you.

The "Biblios" refers to itself as "Scripture." So, you're wrong again. I know what I base my belief on....What you base your lack of belief on......The Biblios calls, "willful ignorance."

Good grief!

So if the instruction manual for the "Xco Yz" you're getting tomorrow doesn't say "Instruction Manual" you're not going to accept that it is the instruction manual? Supposing it says "How to use the "Xco YZ" or "Your Xco Yz" or just "The Xco Yz" are you going to toss it away unread?

Do YOU have your name tattooed on your forhead? How do we know you are you if it doesn't say its you? Do you have "left" and "right" written on your shoes? How do you know that the right shoe is the right shoe if it doesn't say it is?

Go to your bookshelf and find a few books. How many of them have their title held within the text itself rather than just on a title page? Er....probably none, not one.
