Actually, there is a very scientific explination. You see... the glaze contains a chemical called sugar in it, that causes the human tastebuds to tingle sending a great sensation to the brain. This sensationg cause the brain to want more. The bread part really is more about hungar. It is fluffy and filling to the body. And if you have a jelly-filled then well that leads to more want for the dounut! It also leads the average person to thinking it is better for you because jelly has fruit which is healthy in it. But really, there is no such thing as a healthy dounut and you should try to fix your problem. I suggest the website below that helps with addictions.

The reason, which is only my own opinion, is that when you eat something with that MUCH of a burst of sugar, it stimulates your spleen to release a LOT of insulin. The insulin does it's job, but then is still around looking for more sugar (like pac-man). It overdoes the job, and your blood sugar plunges. Your body knows that the ONLY way to raise the blood sugar is to get a BIG infusion of MORE SUGAR, preferably from some of the best tasting donuts around!

I attend FSU, my girlfriend is a nutrition and dietetics major...and she told me this.

Fat and sugar are craved, almost addictive to the body. And since donuts have a LOT of both...your body will want it. That is why people always go back to fast food places....because of the LOTS of sugars, salts, and fats they have. Did you knwo that the bread in McDonald's buns have sugar in them! So thats why the donuts are addicting, because your body craves it...even thought it may not need it. This is where "self control" should come in, and sadly half of America has NO self control...hence why they are overweight.

donuts are cooked in oil. That equals fat. Donuts are high in fat and sugar. Loooong ago when people were primitive food could be scarce. Our bodies learned to store and crave fats. Unfortunately, they do the same thing today, making high-fat foods very addictive! Make sure you don't eat too many and you'll be fine!

Because they are so delicious! If you are putting on too much weight, try cutting down on snacking on donuts. If that is just way too hard then have one for breakfast once in a while.

I used to be addicted to donuts, but if you aren't eating them and stay away from them for awhile, you don't crave it and realize you lost 10 pounds!

It's the sugar that does it. Others are addicted to their sugar in other forms, but it is a sure way to becoming overweight and ill, regardless of how you get your surplus sugar.
