I have heard that wearing natural materials in large gauge lobes stops the issue of "ear cheese". I would like to know why this is. And does this apply to stone jewelry?
When I reach my goal, I would like to invest in something natural, but I would prefer a material that can be worn in the shower. Suggestions?

Please, no lectures. I'm over 40 so I'm not going to regret it later and I'm not going too extreme... 2 g. (6 mm.) is the max.

Good answers!
I have ordered from BodyArtForms a lot, but AnotherHole looks great, too!

2ga is pretty tiny, so you shouldn't get too much stank. Just make sure to clean them in the shower and let them airdry before putting the plugs back in (make sure to clean them as well)

Most natural materials (like wood) should not come in contact with water. They help reduce the smell since they can breathe better, but this also means they can get waterlogged.

If you want to wear plugs in the shower (2ga would close pretty quick. I'm at 5/8 and sometimes it's hard to put the jewellery back in after) wear stainless steel. Acrylic is the worst s.h.1t to wear. If you're going to anyways, only do it for short periods of time (like a day)

a million. that's referred to as stretching, not gauging. 2. there's no everlasting damage. What you're doing is stretching your pores and skin... how can that reason any everlasting damage, except stretched pores and skin, which isn't damage yet a change! regardless of in case you opt for to remove the extra pores and skin, you may have reconstructive surgical operation. 3. about 0g is frequently seen the point of no go back - as a lot as 0g, your lobes will frequently manage to cut back decrease back to a "standard" hollow. 4. there's no everlasting "damage".

I can't explain why it is, because I don't know, but wooden plugs seem to lower my level of "ear cheese". My right ear is 7/8" (left 9/16") and from my experience acrylic seems to stink the most. Anotherhole.com and bodyartforms.com seem to have very inexpensive organic jewelry if you wanted to give it a try. :) Happy stretching!
