I'm talking about raw beef, like steak or stew meat. I like it raw. Is that normal?

Just to clarify, I don't actually eat it for a meal, but if I'm cutting up stew meat, I like to sample a few pieces. It's just something I've done for awhile. And it's only certain cuts of beef. I would never eat raw ground beef or chicken.

I don't think it's strange... I do the same thing, actually. For me, I find this strange because I eat my beef well done. Yeah, it's probably not the healthiest thing to do, but nor is drinking excessively, smoking, or a bazillion other things people do. I don't do it with pork or fish, either--just beef--and no matter what meat I prepare, I pay excessive attention to clean up. For me, I think it's more of a texture thing than the flavour.

Odd, no. Safe, not likely. My grandmother would eat some of the stew meat as she was chopping up veggies, and she would pop a piece of raw hamburger in her mouth as she was making the patties, so I wouldn't say that it's odd.
However, you want to be sure you trust where you are getting your meat from, don't let it set out where bacteria can get into it and such, because raw meat CAN make you very sick (though my grandmother has never suffered an ailment from it.)
Another thought is that this may mean you are iron or nutrient deficient. This is the reason why pregnant women have cravings, many don't get enough nutrition to cover themselves growing and changing AND a growing baby.

Kibbie (Syrian ground lamb) is eaten raw or cooked. Hamburgs consisting raw ground beef in a bun was common in the Netherlands. Know where your meat comes from. E. coli grows in the intestines of humans and many other animals; so it should not be a problem unless it is processed wrong.

no there are lots of ppl that like raw meat and fish....i know steak tartare was very popular at one time but with ecoli issues etc. ppl stopped eating it. some ppl even like pork on the raw side. supposedly beef is safe to eat raw as long as its very fresh and not ground beef. why not do a websearch for the beef industry and see what they say?

Have you always liked it raw or is that a new craving? If it's new, your body could be experiencing some type of deficiency that is making you crave raw meat. In general, it is not a good idea to consume meat raw. There are many microorganisms that are killed during the cooking process. I would talk to your doctor about making sure your bloodwork is normal.

Why would it be stranger to eat meet then eat raw fish (sushi)? If you go to an italian restaurant, you can have Carpaccio, which is thin slices of raw beef with parmesan, olive oil and vinegar. And in french restaurant, you can have tartare, ground beef with different seasoning. Delicious!

Steak tartare used to be a big thing, however I think eating raw meat is just asking to get deathly ill because of all the bacteria that is accumulated from hoof to supermarket.

I am sorry to say that IS DISCUSTING. I yell at my kids for even touching raw meat. But to each his/her own. I guess its not that bad as long as you are not eating the whole thing raw. And how big are these samples? Like dime size, quarter, or hopefully smaller?

hmm...you fall within a small minority that does. Normal? not really but then again not strange either...I wouldn't recomment eating raw meat for the obvious reasons but if you like it so much, eat it in thin, moderate slices. Don't make an buffet out of it or you'll find yourself in ER for a min!
