First of all, you are NOT dumb. I believe people have what I like to call "selective intelligence". This means that people tend to learn what they find interesting. Sometimes however, a person may have problems learning. It doesn't mean that they aren't intelligent, it simply means that they may have trouble focusing or have some medical problem that can easily be fixed. Have you ever been tested for A.D.D.? Or do you find that when you read or write the letters may look backwards? You may also be deslexic. If you don't believe that either of these are the problem, then there are many other things you can do to help you to retain what you learn. For instance, I have a problem remembering names and dates, so I do this little trick where I will make up a little rhyme to help me remember a date, or I will associate a name with someone else I know with the same name. Here's an example, this is not a rhyme that I made up, but one that has been around for years "In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue". This is a good way to help you when learning history. Also, you might go to the library and ask for books that will help you in your weakest areas. For me math is a problem, so a good math book that offers little tricks would be beneficial. Anyway, please don't call yourself dumb! If you believe yourself to be dumb, others will think so too. Good Luck and a Merry Christmas to you!

Mental therapy is now a clinical term. And it involves simply using your brain to figure things out. If you, for example, learn to do a crossword puzzle and keep trying to improve your skill at doing the crosswords your brain will learn.
The amazing thing is that as your brain learns, it will also acquire the ability to solve other unrelated problems. Like say working from a recipe book or accounting for where and how much you send during the day.
Your brain is a biological calculator, and it is the most advanced calculator known to man in the sense that it not only learns but remembers if you use it on a regular bases.
The brain, it has been discovered recently, goes over the things we do, think, dream and fear during the night and while you sleep and it does it backwards and forwards which is why, when you use your brain, it grows in knowledge exponentially, which means in all directions at once.
There are levels of crossword difficulty, so find the level you are on and seek out those puzzles to start with, or whatever you decide to study, do, or figure out.
Reading is always great brain training.
Great question!

I think you may have the same problem I use to have. Reading for comprehension. Break down and everything you read. You will need a lot of reference material but usually a dictionary, encyclopedia, and a thesaurus will get you 95% of the comprehension required. You have to read for enjoyment though. Make it a habit to read 15 minutes a day on your free time. By the way your not dumb and if you feel you are then maybe some counseling may be in order. I hope that isn't the case but it can't hurt.

Nobody's naturally dumb! Read a lot, if you don't know something look it up, listen to the news on tv and radio and keep talking to people - you'd be surprised how much information you can get from others.

You can start with the letter 'A' in the encyclopedia. I used to read it when I was bored. Now i'm pretty good at knowing a little bit about a lot of stuff.

i think playing games help. not just any game. but RPG with puzzle games. like FFVII for the PS1. because you have to read so much. and like Xenogears for the PS1, you have to read so much too but there are harder puzzles. only a few has ever beaten the game due to the difficulty of the puzzle.

they are both great games. this only helps if you like games. if not, well good luck.
