I work for an Event Planning company and it seems most Catholic weddings do not allow flash photography during the ceremony. Why is this?

We Catholics hold the Mass as totally sacred and especially during the consecration of the Holy Eucharist and taking photos is not only a distraction but it is deemed inappropriate, to the sacredness of the Mass.

Because for catholics marriage is a holy sacrament not to be interrupted by flashes and everyone should be concentrating on the holiness of the ceremony. After the ceremony is over photographers are allowed to pose people at the foot of the altar.

Never heard this before. And I live in Italy; 95% of the weddings are catholic, and the guests are snapping photos all the time. You're perhaps confusing flash photography with flashing, which is almost certainly frowned upon at catholic weddings.

Use of flash photography is at the sole discretion of the pastor of the church, or the priest presiding over the ceremony.

Many ministers view flash photography as demeaning and disrespectful to the solemnity of the religious ceremony, not just Catholic priests.

And the flash policy can change from church to church.

They say Flash Photography will make people not concentrate on the actual ceremony!

A wedding or christening should be performed separately and not with the mass so the occasion can be recorded and photograph, it's a once in a lifetime event, you don't take pictures after the fact. In the Philippines, I take pictures in front, back, sides of the priest and it's okay, it's fun, not like here America, it's kill joy and boring

It's not for reasons reflecting their faith...I know of weddings (non-Catholic) that prefer NOT to use Flash Photography! Merry Christmas ;)

Marriage is a Sacrament where a man and a women join together as one flesh.

The most important thing in a wedding is the sacredness of their vows.

Flash photography would distract from the dignity of the ceremony.

With love in Christ.

I don't remember not seeing this. So many weddings today do pictures before or after. Maybe less distraction?

Flashing is frowned upon by devout Catholics.
