It's a natural reacton in some cats. Instinctually they usually go around trees or plants, so bringing in the tree has obviously brought that natural behaviour out in the cat. You can try to confine the cat to just a couple of areas in your house until the tree comes down. Treat all the areas where she has been urinating with nature's miracle to get rid of the smell, but some cats have a hard time understanding why nature has come inside. Look at it this way, at least she's not climbing the tree and pulling down ornaments! Christmas isn't that far away, just keep her away from the tree until it's gone!

She should have already marked her turf a long time ago. But I moved into a new apartment several months ago and had a real problem with this from all 3 of my cats even though there was new carpeting in here. I used a phernome(sp?) thing in the electrical outlet and spray but they did not work. I was constantly cleaning and spraying stuff that was supposed to deter them. I finally had to change their litter to Arm n Hammer and that has finally stopped them. I don't know why the cat would be acting crazy at this point. My cats do this once in awhile just to play when they get a spurt of energy. Maybe if it is a live pine tree, it might be the natural outdoor smell or pine smell that is causing it. DO NOT THROW HER!!!

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

It may be the confusion related to various new smells, have you recently purchased a new rejuvenating Couch or Curtain conditioner. Maybe this is what is driving your cat to do these unusual things, it might be the Christmas tree (real or false). I think it's a process of elimination, one by one, until you find out the cause of this rather out of the ordinary behaviour. Other than that, play the 'Damb Busters' music loudly, and give your cat an indication of what will happen if it continues with it's own brand of furniture conditioning.

Hey, it's called "the call of nature" for a reason. You brought her a tree, she's getting in touch with her inner Tiger.
No, really, another cat probably peed on it before you got it and she is freaking out about the smell.
I just want to mention that sometimes bladder infections can crop up after the vet visit. It might be a good idea to have her checked again.

Melissa:
I'm no cat expert, but did all this behavior start when you got the tree? Maybe a wild animal like a bobcat "marked" the tree in the Christmas tree farm, and the cat is reacting to this.

Pine scents often attract cats to pee (especially juniper). It may be old age, but more likely she is just spazing or trying to get attention. I would suggest a male cat, opposite sex and younger (under 3 months of age). She will hate it for two weeks and then probably adopt him as her kitten - it will give her something else to focus on and use up all that extra energy! If not that, you may want to consider an anti-anxiety med (has something changed at home in the last 3-6 months?)
