Can you put too little in a food blender?

Question

I just wanted to blend some celery and apples and not a lot happened except the blender started to smoke. Was it because there wasn't enough in it? Or is it faulty? (Tis a Christmas pressie)

I would say it is almost certainly faulty. It should not smoke even when empty!

Very likely you didn't have enough liquid. That is the difference between a blender and a food processor: a blender needs to have sufficient liquids or it will not blend, a food processor, not so much. I would add some apple juice and try again, but if it makes a loud buzzing noise and the blades don't seem to turn, shut it off right away. You don't want to burn out the motor.

Celery is a little tricky in a blender. It has strings on the skin, so it's best to peel it before putting in the blender. Those strings can get wound around the blade and cause it to overheat. Also, you need to make sure there is enough liquid to keep the contents moving. Good luck.

Your blender is faulty. The motor is air cooled by its own fan and running the blender dry (empty) or with a small amount in the container should not have caused it to smoke.

think blender was faulty. take it back and swapp it. if you put to little in all that happens is the cut bits go to the outside edges and blade goes round without touching things. no smoke should happen at all when using an appliance that isn't faulty. happy christmas.

it must be faulty as you can put in as little as you want but it should`nt smoke, take it back

well if you dont put engouh then it will prolly smoke b.c it doesnt have anything to blend. of course it can also be faulty

sounds faulty hun ........ shouldnt smoke . get the receipt and take it back best be safe than sorry

if its for a christmas present, why are you using it? its probably not got enough in it. There needs to be enough for it to chop everything up
