Don't give your puppy OTC dewormers..they are ineffective and can be very dangerous even fatal to your puppy. It is fine to wait a few days to see the vet and get the appropriate dewormer.Make sure to take a stool sample in to the vet to have a fecal test done to see what type(s) of worms you are dealing with. While doing this make sure to set up an appointment for a thorough exam with the vet. All new puppies need to be taken to the vet within at the very least 7 days of purchase/adoption no matter where you get them.
There is really no reason to quarintine him away from the other pets, just make sure to pick up all stool and dispose of it (you should anyway).
This puppy will also need to be starting on his vacciantions.

How sweet, she'll love the baby! First, determine what type of worms. Small little skinny worms and lots of them or are they more thick and about an inch long and several but not like hugely in number. If it is the thinner, round worm, your dollar general sells pills for those (cheap) but if it's tapeworm, the inch thicker worm, only medicine for tapeworm will kill them. Only takes three days but you can buy it at Walmart. Only place I found it other than the internet or vet because it's usually requiring a rx. No rx. required at Walmart. It's back with the dog shampoos, etc. One box would do you and it's fifteen bucks. Read the directions because it goes by weight. Keep him from the others because although it's not contagious, if you have poop eaters, they will injest the worm and you'll have more problems than just this. It works fast and great. Enjoy your new addition to the family!

yes, keep the other dog away from his bum,the anus is where the eggs will be). Don't allow him to poop in the same area as your other dog, pick up any waste right away and dispose of it in a trashcan or something. If he has an indoor accident, clean it up right away, and wipe up with a bleach based cleaner. Be sure to wash your hands well... it can transfer to humans as well.
Go ahead and give him the dewormer as directed as long as it is safe for puppies. Be sure to tell the vet what you have used and the dosage. She might want to prescribe something else depending on the worms your dog has. If the dog has tape worm there is nothing you can do until the vet is open.
If you see blood in his stool, call the vet right away, it might be severe whipworm!
Good luck and congrats on your new friend!- dd

If the dewormer contains pyrantel than it will work on most worms (like roundworms). Pyrantel is what vets use as a general dewormer. Keep the puppy seperated and clean up after it well. Enjoy your new pup!

Definitely quarantine him from the rest of the animals. Do not let him do his business where the others will go.
Most store-bought dewormers do not work. When you are able to take him to a vet, ask them to give enough dewormer for all your animals to have 1 dose, for precaution.

I would deworm the puppy, and try to keep him away from you other animals. I would then deworm all of your animals (including the puppy) in 2 weeks, just in case your others get exposed. Also, be sure to pick up all of the puppy's poop, and then clean and disinfect the area that you kept the puppy in.
Just FYI the puppy probably has roundworms, which are pretty common in puppies and easy to treat.

Yes quarintine. Be careful with the deworming stuff. Some are too strong for puppies. You can try and call an emergency vet and ask what they think.

Worms are a given with puppies. Isolate him from your other pets and get him to the vet as soon as possible for prescription worming medication.

you should worm all of your pets now. Sometimes a second treatment is a good idea just to make sure they are all cleaned out. Clean up all fecal matter around. Make sure you keep your hands washed very well after handling..people can get many of the same worms that animals can...

if they are little white ones about the size of rice. you can get some wormer at walmart. usually they will be gone by 3to 4 days. if you see them they should be dead ones. but not all walmart wormers are as strong as they need to be so if i was you as soon as the vet is open make a visit with your pup. now they are hook worms then try to find a emergency vet that is open. hope you get to the vet really soon and your puppy is gong to be fine. and quarantine is not really necessary. you cant catch worms.
