just bought and moved into this house in SC. all the walls have paper on them. I had my bedroom and bathroom remodeled, which cost quite a pretty penny, but now I want to save a few ucks, actually all I can. Good idea or bad to just paint over the wallpaper?

It is possible to paint over wallpaper successfully if you do it correctly. Here are some links that will help you do that.

As far as I know, it's a bad idea and shouldn't be done. If you want to change the look of the room you have to take all the wallpaper down. Hence the reason wallpaper has gone out of style for the most part; nobody likes doing that.

I'd suggest renting a wallpaper steamer and spending the time to remove it all completely. Check the link below for a couple of other techniques you could try.

I have done it.
Sometimes wallpaper comes off easily but mostly its a total pain to take it all off. So I took what I could off and painted it over and made it look like a textured wall.
You also could do that techinque where you paint it one color than rag another color over it so the pieces of wallpaper doesn't show.
Also if you don't like the effect you could paint a mural or put a couple of large pictures over the parts that you were not pleased with it.

If it REALLY is completely smooth I suppose you can, but be sure to use a primer.
